  • Help selecting a DVD Rom drive for VSL

    Hello,

I purchased the First Edition complete package over 6 months ago now and after 4 replacement sets of discs, I am still having problems copying the files across to my hard drive. I keep getting CRC errors with two discs from the brass & woodwinds set.

I have tried the discs on various computers with no sucess except with one computer were they copied with no problems. The last set of replacement discs were tested before being sent by Adrian Clarinda from Time and Space. He tells me the discs copied fine on his system.

I am using a Plextor PX-708A. I have had no problems with this drive with any other discs. Does anyone know of any issues with this drive?

Can anyone recommend a DVD drive they know has no issues with the VSL discs?

Big Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply.

    BA.

  • BA,

I had exactly the same problem with my Opus 1 discs. However I have two computers on a network and the discs were readable in the other DVD drive, so I just copied everything using the functioning drive then copied it over the network.

The drive that worked was a Sony DRU510A DVD burner. The drive that didn't work was a Sony DVD reader but NOT burner (not certain on the model number). I've also not had any problems with any but the VSL discs.

Is your Plextor a DVD burner? I wonder if it has something to do with that...

  • Hi rgames,

Thanks for the reply. The Plextor is a DVD burner.

The problem is bugging the hell out of me [8o|] and I don't want to take a chance and just buy a drive hoping it will work.

I wonder what other users are employing in their systems?

  • I have the latest firmware version on the drive already, but thanks for the tip anyway victorp.

I have arranged to have Plextor test the drive. Maybe they will find something? [*-)]
