  • String articulations on pro Edition

I've planned to buy a new strings library and so I checked the articulations chart of yours.
I really appreciate the third trills ( minor and major) on the violins that a few library can offer but why is there no fourth, fifth, sixth trills ?
It's so used in the strings accompaniement, and furthermore why are these trills only available on violins? What about viola and celli ?
I did'nt see : harmonics, gliss up and down (different speed), harmonics gliss, trem gliss...
These articulations are used very frequently in the modern orchestra and I think a professional library would'nt be comprehensive without that.

Tell me if I missed something in your chart or if an update is scheduled, because regarding the price of this library and the title of "pro", those useful articulations will be required by any serious composer and it will help to make my choice.
    Thank you

  • Harmonics for sure are not there. That would have been nice. And also, the Violins do not go very high. They are still in their thick projecting register. Nothing ethereal up there. There are gliss slides, they are called portamento. And there are grace notes, and legato as well.

Although VSL Pro Edition is not, technically speaking, COMPREHENSIVE, being an owner of it and using it and knowing what IS in there ... I can assure you that it's quite easy to say that it IS comprehensive. I will say it even,

    "VSL PE is comprehensive."

It just covers far too much to not be called comprehensive.

However, I agree there are some glaring omissions, such as Harmonics, Extended Upper Violins range, and Muted Brass (duh).

it is really a fantastic library, and IMEO (In my Expert Opinion) it is the absolute best sounding if realism is important to you.

  • Thank you for your reply.
I agree that the library is sounding great for the most part but I meant that for the price we should expect the articulations I mentioned above because they are very important especially for realism : it's impossible to imitate harmonics, gliss, fifth trills etc... ( actually I did with controllers but it's sounds not very realistic).

If you're an expert could you send me the link of a demo that shows fast playing scales and arpeggios( legato and stacc) with the violin ensemble in the upper register : it's something I never found, even on this website but it's used very frequently in the orchestra and I know by experience that with any library it sounds pretty synthe.
    Thanks again.

It's actually priced right. herb and co., does a great job of elevating the price proportionate to what you get. So if you wanted all the other stuff too, it would have cost more.

I for one would have payed for it however. And I agree it should have been there. High violins, 2nd Violins, Muted Brass, and string harmonics. It just makes sense.

Anyway, with the CUBE or whatever it is called, we'll probably have everything including muted oboe, so just hang out until 2005.

Use DAN DEAN for brass mutes, and SI for Harmonics and extended range.
