Wow, intense listening session, four pieces now [H]

This is the first time I heard portamento samples used in a not embarrasing way. Great! I didn´t know up to now why I should use them.
The bassoon is to mechanical. Also I would like to have it with less reverb. Furthermore it sounds too faded.
I like the clocks, but I could say good bye to them earlier. Although I like the variation with the violin pizz. Maybe forget that notion.
The mix seems not to be right yet. The brass is very fat in the low end but the trumpets although they schmetter are barely audible in comparison.

A very good start I would say. Keep on the good work!

I also thought this was very good. I had one suggestion - make the clocks synced with the beat. That would be cool.

I am curious what this film is about. The music sounds very big and powerful but it's an independent film? About what? I hope it's not a tender neo-realist love story... [[;)]]

Yeah I agree that the mix is not quite polished as of yet. Doing this piece gave me a lot of education on this library. Since the song is so short, I've been thinking about doing another pass on it. Thanks for the tips.

William, the movie is called "Doubleback". It's a semi-short.....Sci-Fi, Time travel film....I don't know too much about it other than the main character who has access to time-travel somehow causes a paradox which the director is trying to imply causes black holes. Supposed to have a lot of CGI.... Heck, it got my interest! heh heh.

yeha, it's VERy good. But I worry about it being "time consuming". be careful. make sure you can do what they ask in the time they ask you to do it in.

Hey question for all... In your experiences, what can you do with the Pro Edition musically that you can't do with the First Edition. Oh and Herb, your Epic Horns sounds spectacular

Sounds good! The second half with the heavy drum taking over as a central pulse kind of lost the playful ticking rhythmic counterpoint from the opening -- perhaps something might be done other than thumping in a steady rhythm, from about 1:05 on? Beethoven manages to be rhythmically inventive across a straight rhythm without losing the meter or the interest.

Evan's comment about time made me pause, perhaps because I'm becoming a Carl Ruggles, myself. Learning to cope with time-pressure might be desirable, but perhaps not more valuable than learning to perfect?

Yes. Nice one. I think you've got the hang of it alright. The reverb though? It's nearly right, but slightly less maybe. I dunno. Could just be a taste thing on my part. Very good piece for a movie I would think and builds very well.

How many Performance patches did you use on this? And which ones if you don't mind me asking?

Performance patches, lets see. That is where the portamento articualtions are right ?(forgive me I'm still new at this VSL). I used the

VA-10_PERF-LEGATO Portamento
VC-8_PERF-LEGATO Portamento
HO_PERF-REP_leg_4-90 <---- I think

Paul, magates, Everything else are single note samples/staccatos. The Trumpets used are from Reason 2.5 Orkester Sound Bank. Not bad huh? I used them because they were really gritty sounding. They fit the application so I tried em.

How are those Sam Trumpets....I'm thinking about getting them.

If you like this genre of music you are writing, you may wish to take a look at the VSL Horizon Series Epic Horns. I've just got them a few days ago, and they will blow you away. Really!

Regarding Sam Trumpets, Horns and Trombones - they are excellent, but these days it's a lot to do with having the facility of the Performance functions.
