When i visited Eddie Harris many many years ago, he showed me a patented mouthpiece he created which successfully inserted a clarinet or saxophone reed mouthpiece into a Trumpet. The sound was brilliant, yet difficult to control. It was sharp, vibrant, and awesome.

Just thought I'd share that. There are still as yet sounds to be heard and created out there! Bowed cymbal being one of the best hybrids!

Several players (Orin Marshall, Melvyn Poore) have exploited playing the tuba with a bassoon reed inserted in the mouthpipe of the tuba which I believe fits quite well with a bit of Blu Tac. Creates a fairly unpleasent but highly exploitable sound a bit like the ancient Serpent but louder and better. I suppose it is possible on all brass instruments so perhaps we need and Epic Double Reed Brass Gig from VSL.

PS actually can I just have muted brass and Euphonium/Cornet etc first Please. I really don't need a bass flute right now.

Ditto that! But, actually Bb Trumpet, not Cornet. Well, Cornet would work too. Not picky. But BASS FLUTE? whatever. Muted Brass a biggy.
