    First off...
    Hello to all.

I'm just waiting for my GS3 rack unit to show up and GigaSampler 3 to come out to try out VSL. I've read most of the posts in this forum and I'm extremely impressed by the caliber of musicians/composers in here. I've gained much knowledge and have heard some very wonderful music. Thank you all for that!

Here are two pieces of music for film that I would appreciate some feedback on.

The first: Fugue of the Desert Sun.mp3

    Protools 6.4 / DP4 /Waves IR Verb

I need to redo the trumpet as I forgot about breaths...errrr...and the temp violin solo in this piece has been finished but I'm waiting until my rig arrives to finish.

    The second: Serene Reflection.mp3

    Protools 6.4 / DP4 / Altiverb - Concertgebouw (sweetened)

I'm thinking of adding some subtle horns and woodwinds....?

Many thanks to anyone with the time to review these.
    See you soon!

    Brian

    P.S.
William - Great post on Varese's ideas. Iconoclastic writing SHOULD be the norm. For myself...deconstruction...the first step.

    Fredrick - 16thNotes.mp3...A resounding YES...Nice run.

  • Brian-
Very nice pieces! Excellent production quality, mixing, stereo placement, etc. One thing, why did you title the first piece 'Fugue', I listened a couple times for fugal subjects, but didn't hear any. Maybe you liked the sound of it, or is there a fugue in there that I'm missing?
    very nice,
    mike

  • Well...it started out as a fugue. I began thinking to use the trumpet in the opening as the subject. My mistake was a far too early break from writing for a walk on the beach and the fugue sort of stayed behind. But you guessed correctly...I like the sound of the title. A purist would frown heavily I suppose, but....! Maybe, "Incomplete Fugue of the Desert Sun"? [:)]

Thanks for taking the time to listen, Mike. I appreciate it.
Good luck with the Copland Mock-up. Not an easy task by any means.

  • BRIAN:

Sorry this was diverted. I listened to your music - nice job and keep up the good work.

  • Thanks for the kind words, William. I've read alot of your posts here and I hold your opinion in high regard. Are any of your compositions available for preview online?

    All the best,

    -Brian

  • I have some on the user demos though I need to revise them.

Besides the other composers' demos there, I think some of the best things done with VSL I've heard are Jay Bacall's orchestrations of Mompou on another thread. Extremely expressive and subtle dynamics, and a very good sound.

    Chris-

I do have a short fuse, yes, and did not understand. I have liked and been very interested in your other posts... sorry for the flames.

    Will,
Hey, no problem. Now, back to the music, eh? I'll go ahead and remove (or edit out since I can't figure out how to delete posts) that last post. Let's clean up this forum, shall we? Um . . . what was that thread where I commented on your language? Can't seem to remember.
