  • MAKE UP MY MIND

    HI

I am thinking about getting opus i like the demo but i am confused with the proformace tool thing here is my ?

if i got opus and the profromance tool are all the samples in opus enougth to do a realistic string part or do i need the performace set as well

like is there a sample bank to load with up/down bow/pluck/shortnote/and so onand the tool figuers out what sample to play

    i hope i make sence
    THANKS [8-)]

  • groove,

the performance tool isn't artificially intelligent (thank god - VSL would actually take over the world), but a simple (?) MIDI filter that automates layers in a patch, normally governed by keyswitches.

in this respect, there are modes in the tool that can control up/down bows, but not differentiate between arco and pizz. Using a 'basic combinations' patch, or a custom-articulation that you put together yourself, you can manually keyswitch between arco and pizz, but having a performance articulation within this layering is overly complicated (and would consume too much RAM [??])

have you listened to the OPUS 1 or PRO demos? these will give pretty good representations of the differences in the libraries. I'm not sure of the level of realism you need to achieve - you're faking it all the way, whether it's opus or pro - remember, it's still a computer generated image at the end of the day, and you're out to fool others into hearing reality where it doesn't exist.

almost a deep thought there. sorry [:D]

  • You'll get the performance tool along with your Opus, there are some performance articulations included with Opus, check the articulation list on the website for details on that, mainly legato instruments.

IMO Opus is enough to do convincing string lines, however if you want it to be high standard you might find need to expand it, it does not include nearly all articulations that the Pro Edition got. Quality wise, Opus is only a selection from Pro Edition, so you get the same (only wholetone sampled in Opus and halftone in Pro Ed.).

    Hope this helps,
