  • Uhm - I know I may be asking the obvious - but couldn't you just remap the VSL according to your needs ...?

  • Ahhhh, then you would be implying I know my Gigastudios that well.... I will soon be spending some time exploring sample mapping and modifying - but, honestly, is this what everyone does who needs this sort of stock orchestration technique?

Isn't there a DVD out that details sample mapping for Giga? Does anyone have this or recommend something ?

    Thanks,

    Shawn

  • Oh.... there's a wonderful post brewing on this very subject and more... in the Vienna Sample Library thread.

    >>no piccolo runs/ornaments?!?>

    Its um... "entertaining" at best.....

    Shawn,

I highly recommend a great 4-CD set called "GigaStudio Mastery," created by Dave Govett. I tried figuring out the GS editor using the the manual, but the CD tutorial is definately the way to go!

  • If you have the possibility of using Logic on the Mac, setting up your own Instruments for EXS24- such as multiple gliss articulations- is really very easy.

    But I don't want to start a PC-Mac-Logic-GIGA debate.....that's so unhelpful.
Better to stick with tools you know unless something else offers major benefits.

Not if EXS comes out on top!

  • I will not buy a PC....I will not buy a PC!!! [8-)]

man, I am sometimes tempted.....I would love to have access to E-mu's new software sampler....and I have so many GIGA libraries which need fiddly conversion....and the laptop PCs have a lot of power for the money...

....then I just say to myself " Logic 5.5???!!! - be strong, be strong!!! "

    Nigel,

Is it not possible to have the best of both worlds and link Apple G5's to to PC's? Is there a problem with this, or am I being naive. I'm assuming you could have Logic Pro on the Mac and Giga3 on the PC(s), or is this pointless? Also, this new Emulator X? Bill has mentioned this to me and do you have any thoughts on this new equipment?

    Paul

  • The power of MIDI is that you can link anything with anything that uses it. I have never understood this mentality that insists on either/or with PCs and Macs.

I have the Emulator X and like it. It works really well, importing all the typical sample formats, and uses the same architecture as EOS which I always liked but is now expanded to disc streaming and any size RAM. Very logical and fast interface, compared to the other software samplers I've used (giga, Halion, EXS).

  • I don't know, I'm actually trying to reduce the amount of equipment I need, so the idea of another computer of a different type
holds little appeal. Maybe the E-mu sampler will appear for the Mac, eventually. I still have my E-mu hardware, even Proteus 2 [H] !!
