  • Performance set or Opus 1?

Hi, I own the first edition strings, but want to upgrade so that I can utilise the performance tool for legato mode. It seems there are two ways to do this, the Performance set, or Opus 1.
Any thoughts as to the pros and cons of each?

    Cheers

  • I beleive that if you have other sample liberaries for other instruments - then go for Perf.

If you dont have anything else other than the strings, then go for Opus.

An obvious "con" with Perf. Ed is price... but if thats not an issue then go for it

Another thing to bare in mind if wether you are planning to upgrade to complete Pro. Ed. at some point, in which case you might want to go for Opus since it has an upgrade path.

  • another considerarion is you will be duplicating some of your string patches if you buy opus 1. You already own all but the performance patches for strings so some of your purchase will be wasted. Still as mentioned above alot would depend on what other libs you have as far as covering straight winds and brass and percussion. The performance winds may be all you need except for the missing trills.

  • Thanks guys

I have no other orchestral samples at all.

I almost bought Opus 1 rather than the 1st ed. strings, but it wasn't quite available at the time and I had a project I wanted strings for.

Is there really enough woodwind etc on the performance set to be using? The legato tool is something I'm really looking forward to having..! I do see myself owning the full pro edition one day.

  • My advice is definately to get Opus 1 then... you get some pretty sweet legato stuff in that aswell. ESPECIALY the woodwinds are simply stunning.

On top of that you also get regular samples from the most common instruments. I would get Opus 1... sounds like what your looking for.. unless your not actually interested in having a broad rang of orchetsral instruments... but are looking for something specific in the Performance Set

  • Only drawback is, there is yet no official upgrade path that I know of, so that you could benefit from owning Opus 1 -and- First Edition Strings Package (if you go Pro Edition Complete). So as far as I understand it you'd waste around 1000 bucks that way if you plan to get Pro Edition later on.

Actually I'm a bit unsure about this, better to have a word from a VSL employee on that.

hansi, there is an upgrade path from opus 1 to the pro edition
*This means that you are eligible to purchase the Complete Orchestral Package of our PRO EDITION in any format for the reduced VIP price of US-$/EUR 4,490.00!* - see OPUS 1 - upgrade information
and a pro edition strings VIP price for registered users of the first edition strings (390 instead of full price 1.390) - see PRO EDITION - STRINGS

  • Yes, so far it's clear to me. But if irvind will purchase the Opus 1 additionally to the First Edition Strings Package, could one take advantage of both at the upgrade at the same time? Meaning you get 1000 discount for owning opus and 1000 discount for owning the Strings? Can I combine those when upgrading to a final upgrade price of 3490 to Complete Pro Edition? That was the point I was unclear about.
