    Hi,

    Has anyone used both the Altiverb IR 'Amsterdam Concertgebouw' and the Cholakis Impulses? I use the Altiverb Concertgebouw and am generally happy (after all it's free), but have heard some great things about the Cholakis.

    Can anyone compare them?

    The Cholakis-IRs are the best on the market up to now. This doesn't mean that there aren't other high-quality IRs available (the ones that come with the Waves IR-1 seem to be very nice, for example), but Cholakis' / Numerical Sounds IRs are _consistently_ brilliant, throughout all his available sets.

    Thanks for the reply Dietz.

    Have you also used the Altiverb Concertgebouw IR? I'm trying to work out if the difference is worth spending the money on the Cholakis Impulses. Are you able to describe the difference - and also reccomend a particular set (I'm after the concert hall sound)?

    Ernest impulses are indeed very very good.

    I am not sure how much "real" they are, as I believe Ernest has applied a lot of custom processing to them in order to get the best result (which shows). There are no also references to real, existing halls with the set that I bought.

    Ernest's impulses are single stereo files. Altiverb also has a more enhanced mode, in which two stereo impulses are applied, one for the left and one for the right channel. This is ofcourse the ultimate approach, which is not supported by Acoustic Mirror, but IS supported by the new Waves IR-1.

    I have not yet checked with Ernest if he is considering updates or new imulses that support this stereo-stereo mode. Since I don't have AltiVerb, I am not sure if the Concertgebouw is available in this stereo-stereo mode.
