  • EXS Perf Tool For Giga Users??

Herb mentioned the possibility of making just the EXS perf. tool available for giga users who convert the library to EXS themselves. I'm about to ugrade to the pro edition, and am deciding which format to purchase. Even if you did make just the EXS tool available how feasible is it to convert a perf leg instrument myself? It seems you have the sample organized in a particular way for the tool to use them which would be difficult to do.

    Thanks,

    Colin

  • Word for word, I had this same question. On some hallowed day, I hope to upgrade from the First Edition Giga Performance Set to the Pro Edition EXS Performance Set. In the meantime, would the EXS Performance Tool be usable for conversions? What does EXS' own converter do with Giga / VSL Performance Sets? And could Chicken Systems' Translator handle them any better? I'm concerned that some performance sets are so convoluted and platform-specific that a meaningful translation can't be done.

  • hi@all

    some comments about giga->exs-conversion:

as you know, the exs-versions of all vsl-products originate from the giga-version. so i know what problems you'll get with the conversion:

    1. the Basic Instruments convert pretty good, there are just some "cosmetic errors" that occur, which can be solved pretty fast (although you need a lot of time for all the thousands of programs)

    2. the combinations don't convert that well: often there are missing groups (groups which are selected by modwhell and keyswitch won't be converted), and also the release triggers aren't converted right!

    3. with the performance repetitions you'll encounter the same problems that combinations have.

    4. dynamic layers have to be mapped all by yourself!!! (you can't use, what's beeing converted)

    5. performance legati can be converted, but 1. they need at least TWICE as much ram as "our" performance legato-programs need. 2. NEITHER the release samples, NOR the legato-repetitions will work properly.

    6. special performance-legato-programs (p+f, f+porta_f, ...) and a lot of other combinations are not included in the giga-version, because untill now, they can be done just with exs (giga 2.5 is just capable of handling 16 stereo-dimensions), so they have to be built by yourself!!!!

i want to add that just the conversion and the mapping took loooooots of hours by some people!!! so think for yourself, if you are willing to spend a few months just for the giga-exs-conversion!!!! [[:|]]

  • What does the full EXS Pro Edition(perf and cube)cost if you already have the full Giga Pro Edition? I think you've answered my dilemma on converting it myself!

    Thanks,

    Colin

  • Rainer, many thanks for a quick, specific, and detailed response. You've saved me numberless hours. Does your response cover both the native EXS converter and Chicken System's Translator as well? Clearly yes for those issues linked to Giga limitations, but you touched on some points that might be better handled by a more intelligent converter.

  • This goes for all known translators:

    ChickenSys Translator
    Native EXS GIGA Conversion
