  • VSL in mp3 ringtones - licence ok?

Question for Herb - are there any licence restrictions with regards to using VSL in mp3 ringtones?

They wouldn't be exposed samples but just parts mixed in with other synths / lead instruments. The ringtones may be default tones included in the manufacturers hardware.

    Cheers,

    Ian

  • I'd like to hear the official response to this, but as far as I know, if you are the owner of the samples you are allowed to use them to make music in all mediums.

  • I think it's not so complicate.
You can sell your music to anybody, so also to ring tone companies.
But you are not allowed to sell the samples.
That means, if you make a composition which is used as ringtone, fine.
If you sell them - for example - some of our tubular bell samples, and they use these samples as ringtones, this is not OK.

    best wishes

  • Herb - thanks for the response - I was pretty sure that was the case but just needed it clarifying.
