  • Which Sampler?

    Hi,

Can anyone advise me please? I am very interested in the pro-edition sample library where it says:

"An entirely new component system consisting of so-called performance elements means that playing techniques such as legatos, runs and repetitions, which have had limited implementation in previous orchestral sample libraries, are now completely and intelligently integrated to make possible a realism unobtainable until now. Special mappings make it easy for the user to adjust the timing and note lengths within the performance elements and even to manipulate these authentic passages in real-time! Because each instrument is mapped the same way across its entire range, the user can find what he’s looking for quickly and dependably, despite the vast number of individual instrument and ensemble samples".

    Q. Does this mean I can recreate for example bowing and fingering techniques of a violin player using a defined technique on a keyboard?

    Q. In order to achieve the best sound quality and to take advantage of all the performance nuances available in the sample library which sample player would you suggest:

    a. gigasampler
    b. EXS24
    c. Mach 5
    d. Other

I would very much appreciate any advice!

  • Hi Jonathan,

In answer to your first question......many of the articulations are all ready made for you (more than any other library by far), though you are welcome to try to make your own articulations out of various patches.

As far as sample playback units are concerned, here is my 2 cents. Mach 5 is really not an option yet till disk streaming is implemented. I love EX24 as it allows for more possibilities than with giga. You though are limited with the amount of memory in EXS untill G5's can read 8 gigabytes of memory and Logic can see it. My guess is both EXS and Mach5 will soon have updates. Giga is the most preferred version as there are no memory limitations in the sense that you can add as many PC's as your budget can allow. If you have a limited amount of funds where you can't have multiple PC's then I'd probably go with EXS and a powerful Mac computer.

  • it's much cheaper than giga, can run multiple instances, can run on seperate computers, does streaming, is x-platform, etc.

At least check it out. The translations aren't perfect - for that go with exs24 or giga. But the rumor is that the upcoming upgrade should fix that.

I should know better than to post late at nite.......I forgot about the above statement which I agree with.
