    Does this mean only a few intervals were sampled?? How does this operate compared to the p leg grace flute for example?? If you play an octave interval how does it handle this?

    It looks like Herb is on vacation as he normally would have answered this by now [:D] . They will only play up to an interval of a minor 3rd, anything beyond will not sound.

    performance Grace note legato is made for Runs.

    Performance legato is made for melodic lines. They are similar except that grace notes tend to be more "slur-like" and faster. You can use either for "legato" notes, but their are really designed for different purposes.

    I only wish the intervals included went up to fourths so that one could arpeggiate triads quickly. Or at least up to major thirds. The first edition brass lack this as well.

    Yea more intervals are better but that's where it stands right now. What is interesting is the flute grace notes work so well it's like having a 2nd flute but they did a 2nd flute anyway. I'm not sure it was the best use of time but now there will basically be 3 flutes. This is almost like having 3 seperate solists in a library to make up a section. How cool is that. Anyway, I digress. while I like the idea of performance grace notes for VI's they do not work as effectively as the flutes do. One great thing about VSL is choices and usually there is a work around. In this case I prefer the pre recorded grace notes with the Release samples. Without the release samples you are pretty much stuck to what they give you and it functions as AO does with their phrases...preset. With the RS's you can speed up the line a fair amount as the RS does some work. Can it go super fast .....no, but it's certainly better than anything else I have tried.

    Thanks for the tip Craig. I'll give it a try when the pro edition comes out.

    Speaking of scales and arpeggios, originally it sounded like Herb was planning on sampling some obscene number of scales and arpeggios in various tempos and dynamics. There would be a new performance tool for these as well, so one could pull these off convincingly. I haven't heard any mention of this lately, though. I wonder if it is still planned? Personally, I'd rather see this done before the ancient instruments get sampled. I think historic instruments would be nice, but the other is more practical for us commercial composers.

    there are quite a few advancements going on with the runs and such. Its up to new technology to really show it off tho. Herb's had ideas for this stuff for quite some time. I keep thinking I'm comming up with something new, and herb just kidn of sits there and says "I know". I can almost see his half smirk when he says it too [:)]

    I know, me too - although I'm sure nobody would believe me now. I had a plan for recording my own giga libraries with various repetition phrases and common patterns with as much of an orchestra as I could afford. I'm really glad I didn't go to the expense now!

    I also had similar ideas to what these guys are doing with MIR. I'm pretty sure now that if I come up with an idea, Herb's already thought about it. I wonder what his plans are for defeating equal temperment in the sampled orchestra? That was next on my list.
