  • System Requirement

    Hello!
Well i think i am gonig to buy VSL in some weeks but before this i want to know if its run good on my system.

    CPU:AMD Athlon with 1400 MHZ
    Ram: 256 MB SDRAM
Soudcard: only Onbard(AC´97)( i know it´s a bad Soundcard for Audio recording i will buy a better one soon.)
    OS: Win2k

Well i think i need more RAM. And i use as Sequencer Logic 5.

    Thanks for comments.

  • not familar with athlon should be good you NEED a giga compatible
soundcard- see the tascam site. and more RAM.

  • Hello!
Why need i a GIGA compatible soundcard if i use EXS24 and not Gigastudio.

  • Why do you believe your onboard AC97 sound is going to give you acceptable performance in EXS/Logic? Quite frankly most onboard audio is useless, you'll be pulling your hairs out. If you had an NForce 2 board this might be different but I'm not sure how their current ASIO driver holds up.

In any case, forget it. It's not going to run well, let alone play well. Period. And 256 for VSL is just too little, 1 GIG of ram should be the minimum.

  • if your are using logic on the PC you will need a ASIO/ (EASI better if you can get it)
audio card. like the above post forget your onboard audio card- check out the delta series or somthing similar.

Well Dan Dean Sample CD´s runs well on my PC with Logic.

  • Well, VSL is not Dan Dean. And I have Dan Dean sets too, they'll probably eat about 40 megs per instrument is my guess. Which means you can't load a whole lot of them before running out of memory.

Besides, ram is cheap! 1 gig is not going to cost you an arm and a leg.

As for performance, I have a hard time believing things "run well" with that onboard sound. Latency would prevent that. Are you playing in stuff live, or just entering notes right into the editor by hand?

  • I don't understand how you can invest so much in software (VSL) and so little in hardware (your machine is not up for this task). I'd say start with the Performance Pack only and buy two additional sampler PC's, proper soundcards, a simple network and sequence from your current (slower) Athlon.

Btw, you were referring to the Akai version of Dan Dean's libraries I assume? They are probably a lot smaller than the GigaStudio versions. I would never be able to run a sequencer and a sampler with my DD libs in only 256 Mb.

  • Thanks for all the comments.
I am going to buy then first more RAM and a better Soundcard.
