  • Decided to Purchase VSL

    Hi all,

I have made the decision to purchase VSL. [:D] I want to compliment this forum and particuliarily the support offered to new users. Also my decision was made in part by user demos and my good friend, Craig Sharmat's recommendation. Craig was very candid on the Libraries many strenghts (and a few shortcomings). The shortcomings were not deal breakers for him as he fully expects this library to improve over the next few years.

I am finializing and deciding on who to build my additional computer(s) needed right now but should have everything complete and in my studio in the next 3-4 weeks. Thanks again and I look forward to the new 'pallette of colors' this will offer me.

  • Welcome Rob,

hope you enjoy the work with our library,
and thanks a lot to Craig.

    best wishes
    Herb

  • My pleasure,

It's a easy to spread the word about such a great product.

    Congradulations Rob [:)]

You will discover things you didn't know or understand for a while with VSL (I'm still finding new things or ways to apply things I thought I understood). The more time you put in VSL, the more it pays you back. It really is like learning a new instrument though you can do some pretty awesome stuff right off the bat. I'll look forward to hearing your stuff, I'm confident with your writing, it will sound great.

  • Here (Quebec and Montreal, Canada) the VSL is the best sampler. I suggest it to many composers ... So, can I have a gift ? [[:D]] [:)] [[:D]] (joke) ... Maybe you will have some user from here ... (think of me !!!)

    Take care,

  • congrats Rob, you wont regret it. You'll still want all the other libs out and coming out, but you wont regret picking up VSL [;)]

Believe me the first time you sit down with some of these instruments you're gonna crap your pants they're so cool, so keep an extra pair around.

  • [[:D]] brilliant.. i just took the VSL plunge too.. and am looking forward to many years of use out of this marvellous library..

i hope we both enjoy [[:D]]

    Count me in as well.
After looking at the competion, I came to the conclusion that nobody offered the same upgrade path for the long term.
I'll be joining the club in July

  • Hey King,

I always have an extra pair or two of 'depends' for just this type of experience. Works great and I don't have to stop writing. [:D]

Still trying to get a 'larger' advance from the director of this current project but I am hopeful I can get into this library (and new PC) in the next 30 days (oh I wish it was sooner though.)

    Hey Rob,

Welcome to Club VSL. The things you can do with this library are mind boggling. It will stimulate your imagination over and over, there is so much to explore, and such musical intention in all of it. I am continually inspired by it, and rarely produce a second of music without some VSL instrument in it.

One thing that isn't discussed much is how well it crossed genres. These recordings are spectacularly detailed. Pick any little aspect of the orchestra, and you'll find it represented with extreme depth. There are dozens of gongs. Dozens of cowbells. Dozens of lots of things. Lots of bowed and otherwise abused percussion instruments...spooky sounds galore. Winds and strings are capable of sitting front and center in a pop mix. The perf-legato instruments are extremely wind controller friendly if you're into that.

I find myself constantly astonished. Herb is a visionary with enough grounding to actually make this a reality, and that's maybe the most amazing thing of all. VSL is a rarity. The audacity of the entire venture is remarkable. A person would be nuts to do what Herb has done.

Thankfully, he was nuts enough to do it, and here is is. You will be a happy man.
