  • Performance Tool Manual for Dummies -- help!

    Hi guys,

I have both the cube and performance editions and I LOVE the sets!!! Even though I can't stand the word kudos, well, kudos to the whole VSL team.

However, falling somewhere between the chimpanzee and the slug on the evolutionary scale, I can't seem to get the alternation and repetition tool concepts wrapped around my tiny little head. The timings seem off, and I can't seem to increase tempo (tho I know you can't go slower than orig). And the whole 1:1:0:0 thing makes me think I'm programming at a VERY basic level.

Is there an explanation that's different from the existing manual? Another post, or FAQ section? I swear I've read the manual carefully, and I can't seem to get it. Really.

    Thanks!

  • Hello Wussy,

Maybe it helps, if you download the midi templates of the repetitiontool examples. (you find them in this forum in the top topic)
Looking into the tool settings and into the midifiles in a key (matrix) editor in your sequenzer could help for better understanding.

You'll find there midifiles, mp3 files and template files of the tool.

    Sorry for that dump question:
do you work on one PC, or sequenzer and gigastudio(s) on different PCs?

    best wishes
    Herb

  • Thanks Herb,

I tried out the midi, gsp and pal files and it seems to make a little more sense. I work on two computers, but my Mac sequencer read the SMF fine.

I still have trouble dealing with tempo changes, but I'll poke around and see what I can find.

    Best,

    wussy

  • Simply use again one of the midi examples.
Set the BPM tempo as described, the possible BPM range for each example is described in the text file. Simply altert the BPMs in your sequenzer.

So you get a feeling in which tempo you could play with different repetition files.
