  • Forte legato violins

    Herb

I have had the full VSL for about two weeks now and I have been using it to re-record an orchestral piece that I wrote a few years ago. The library is amazing! However, Today I started to use the forte legato violins (not the portamento legato forte) This patch has a strong portamento element in it. The line I was using it on consists mainly of quavers (eigth notes) at bpm=120. Some of the intervals are large so I would expect a little portamento. But not for every interval. Therefore the forte legato patch is not very satisfactory for this type of writing. Can you make any suggestions on how I can use the library to create a forte legato line mainly use quavers with large intervals?

I think this may have already been covered in an earlier forum. Can the amount of portamento in the patch be changed with a new articulation file?

Also are you planning to record a set of orchestral tom toms (roto toms) which come in sizes from 6 - 18 inches?

  • We are just finishing new forte legati for violins, viola, bassi.
Here you will get "fingered" intervallsteps completly without portamento.

In the meantime you can try to attach a longer envelope fade in and fade out.
Be carefull that you only attach it to the legatosamples (not the starting note = keyswitch 13).

With these settings you can use the instrument only for slower passages.
I'll check which setting works well.
    Coming soon...

  • OK, I made a little artfile for the Violins legato forte (non portamento):

    http://www.vsl.co.at/upload/forum/VI-14_PERF-LEG_f-slow.zip

If you want to make your own adjustments, here is a short description of the new settings:

Apply this setings to all regions and to keyswitches 1 - 12
    to Instrument VI-14_mV_perf-leg_f

    EG/LFo1 window:

    Attack time 0.2 sec
    Release time 0.35 sec

    Mix/Layer window:

    Sample Start Offset: 2000 (=maximum)

    hope it works
