  • Tuba Range

I've just discovered that the Tuba used was in F and has a recorded range in the Perforemance Set that only goes down to E flat. Other Tubas can reach as far as the B flat below, so I was wondering how difficult it is to adjust the sampled instrument's downward range? Is it something achievable in the Giga Instrument Editor, or would that upset the architecture of a Performance instrument?

    Thanks,

    Andy.

  • Of course you can the extend the playrange.
First you have to do it in the gigaeditor, simple scale the lowest keyzone as far as you like. For the performance legati you have to do it in the lower range (up samples) and in the highrange (down samples).

If you work with the performance legato templates you have to adjust the playrange in the performance tool also.
Simply setup the low field. If you go to C1 or lower you have to replace the function keys, maybe to C6 to D6.

By the way, I'm just mapping the contrabasstuba.
Here the original playrange starts at A#0.

    Herb

  • Here's a subject I'm fond of (I think I've mentioned before that I'm a tubist.) It sounds like Herb has recorded that BBb tuba down to what we call a "pedal Bb." I'm pleased to hear that the range will go this low.
I was mildly dissapointed that the tenor trombone samples (at least in the first edition) don't include the pedal tones. The trombones have the best sounding pedals of any of the brass instruments imo. Standard orchestral literature doesn't often call for them, but they certainly show up in big band scores. Perhaps in the pro edition....?

  • Basstrombone (D#1), and Contrabasstrombone. (A#0)

  • slaroussels,

if you take a look at "Instruments Online", our online instrumental studies (klick INSTRUMENTS), you can check out how those deepest recorded tones sound like (see RANGE. and yes, Bb0, the first pedal note on the Bb tuba).

by the way you'll also find extensive information about the type of instruments we recorded, including this mysterious and mellow sounding former bass of the brass section called Cimbasso...
all the rare brass instruments in Instruments Online will be included in the Pro Edition!

    best wishes,

  • Yes, I'm very excited about the upcoming low brass in the pro edition!
