  • Idea for the VSL Performance Tool

I'm using three dedicated VSL machines, and it would be very handy to be able to automate the boot process. Turn on the computer, windows starts, one or two Performance Tools are loaded with their default settings, Gigastudio starts with it's default performance file, and Voila it's ready to use.

So, my question is: Isn't it a good idea to be able to load a startup default into the Performance tool? And maybe it's also handy to see (at the file pulldown menu) a history of loaded files, this for quick allocation

    Regards,

    Geert.

  • Actually, you want to load GigaStudio first in most cases, then the Performance tool, so this scenario might fail for you depending on your rig. But this is also something you can do yourself, simply by putting shortcuts to GIgaSTudio and the MIDI tool in your startup group. Then Windows will start them every time it starts the machine.

But as I said, this is problematic with many audio drivers, so you may need to go into Windows' Safe Mode to un-do your startup group if it causes problems.

In general, I have found it is not a great idea to use automated start ups. If you happen to get some weird OS problem, a start-up group can become a nightmare.

  • maybe so, but i'm working quite some time on a piece with the same setup, so it's nice to be able to use defaults, it's not a big deal, but just one of those nifty things, that makes life a little more easy [:)]

  • Yes, I would like to use the "Startup Folder" idea, but I can't until the performance tool remembers ports with its settings, or supports multiple ports. I assume this will come eventually...

It's possible to automate the boot process, but not only with the startup folder as the performance tool must be launch after Gigastudio is ready.
I made a script which works like that :
It waits 20s after windows startup (to override the network initialisation and gigastudio's start conflict)
    Gigastudio is launched
Then the script wait for Gigastudio to be ready (it could take some time if the database must be updated)
Then the performance tool is launched, but only one as it doesn't remember the midi port settings.

I could post an example if you want.

BTW : Christian, is it possible to include the midi ports settings in the vlp files ? It's very annoying to remap each time we start a performance tool.
