  • Question for the VSL tech guys

A question for the VSL tech guys:
I'm having some problems regarding the performance tool and my midi set up in my giga PC's. I'm using miditerminal 4140's with the lastest drivers on Win98SE. The gigastudio is the lastest version. Everything was perfect for the last two years until I installed the performance tool. Now I have a random thing going on where at least once or twice a day when I boot up and start up Gigga, none of the midi channels will show up on giga. It won't see any midi interface at all. I have to try alternating between booting and rebooting both Gigga and the performance tool and sometimes I have to reboot the machine to get it to work. It's never the same procedure to get to work. It's hit and miss. Sometimes it works on the first try, other times I have to try it 3 or 4 times to get to work. It's not killing me, but it sure is time consuming and a pain to deal with.
Any ideas about this? Obviously its an issue with performance tool and the midi drivers.

  • I also have one of those 4140 interfaces. It is the only interface which in the two years since I have it, never did properly. I also did read on other related forums about many people having similar problems. But their are of course also a few people for which it seam to work [[;)]]

If someone found an really good 4 in / not UBS interface, please let us know.

    Thanks

    Iwan

  • The 4140 is tricky to install. You have to install it twice to get to work properly, but once you've done that it works perfectly. In several years with 3 different giga rigs, I'e never had a problem with midi until now. It's only with the performance tool installed is there a problem. Mestero tools has always worked fine without a single hitch. So the 4140 driver does work fine with other drivers. At first I thought it was a problen with midi yoke because on the first machine I installed performance tools on, I also had midi yoke installed. But, that wasn't the problem. Turns ont that midi yoke wasn't creating the conflict at all, it has always been and still is the perfomance tool. On three different machines I get the exact same problem.
I know that they held up on releasing the performance tool due to a problem. I think maybe that there is still some work to be done here? Maybe another look at how it deals with the 4140 in specific. There are quite a few giga machines out there configured with the 4140 because it isn't USB and it offers 4 midi ports which fits giga perfectly. It would be worth getting it sorted out.

  • As the 4140 (latest WDM driver) has always introduced problems on my plain XP-GS machine with everything configured most conciously (it caused MIDI to hang from time to time, so that I would have to reinitialize the GS-drivers by changing the port-settings back and forth and hit "apply" again), I consider this by design "cool" device is suffering from awfully bad driver support/updating policy. I won't ever use it again and can not recommend it, although it worked OK on my Win98SE system. Anyway: too many people have reported too many problems with that thingee, so let's just through it out of the window [:)].

    Good luck!

  • What Virtual MIDI Router are you using to sit between gigastudio & the perfomance tool?

  • Chris,

I do not know to who you are asking this question, but I do permit myself to answer that I do not understand what you are aksking for. On my system there is nothing between Gigasstudio and the performance tool.....Maybe you do mean between Gigastudio - performace tool and sequencer on same computer. In that case I can not answer, because my sequencer is on another machine.

    Good luck

  • Same here. I don't run my sequencer on the same machine as the giga's. The giga's are stand alone machines that do only one thing - run giga. The only thing inbetween giga and the interface is the performance tool.
