  • Performance Set Question

    Hi All,

I'm just about to buy Giga/VSL [:D] . Could anyone tell me roughly how many Performance set instruments I'll be able to load up at any one time? I'll be running on a P4, 2.4GHz,1536 DDR RAM, XP and Sequencing on another machine.

If I was to convert all of the samples to mono, would that mean I was able to load up twice as many (don't worry I know Giga streams from disk), or does the Ram have to allocate so many Kb per sample regardless?

    Hope somebody can help,

    Thanks,
    Andy.

  • It depends on your piece of music. I would say that a section of an orchestra could be loaded at once (more or less). The repated elements have several variations such as creasendos, dimuendos, staight performances (no changes in volume), plus the stright repetitons are set up so that one loads in one dynamic at a time. I hope this will change in future editions. Then there are the grace note stuff, the scales and legato patches.
The harp glissandos only move in the upward direction. I hope that the future editons include descending glisandi...

  • Hey Esperlad: try using the Mod Wheel with the Harp glissandos.

    You'll get a surprise!

P.S. I hate to read manuals too.

  • Like wow! Like, gag me with a rocket ship!
I'm so happy that both to discover descending glissandi.
I have read the manuel on some stuff...really. [8-)]
I tried to change the MOD wheel on the scales too...guess what? They go down too!
I feel like I have have a new toy again. The oboe sounded quite nice too.
I think a french oboe would certainly be a nice addition to the set of instruemnts.
Does anyone know how often the Wien Oboe is used in recordings?
I think the flute and clarinet are wonderful, and have a realistic magical qualtiy. Of course, I am an odd person too....

  • "Does anyone know how often the Wien Oboe is used in recordings?"

I would say, in all recordings with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Personally I never heard in my former business as cello player a french oboe in Vienna. But most I performed was at Vienna Philharmonics.
(I heard it on recordings of course).

Last year the "Institut für Wiener Klangstil", made a scientific research, if listeners can detect differences between Vienna, Berlin and New York Philharmonics. As far as I'm informed without any significant results.

But we have understood: you guys NEED a french oboe.

  • Danke Herb.

Ich habe nur "Die Vier Jahrszeiten" von Vivaldi. Es gibt keinen oboe, der auf meiner CD gehört wird.

  • I think the need is more done by yourself, Herb -> "The first and only comprehensive Orchestral Sample Library on
