havent tried, but it should be possible with MIDI routing tools (I've only been workign with the upcoming GOS updates lately)

I use the good old Hubi's loop back, and with multiple instances it should be completely possible.

I'll try some more in a few days, and reply. I dont see it being a problem on multiple Giga Machines using the seperate libs, but on one machine, depending on the drivers, and loopback devices, it can possibly cause an issue. Let me get back to you, if no one else has tried.

The problem is:
As you run Cubase and GIGA on the same system, the performance tool is NOT working correctly anymore.
The setup is very complicated as well...
1. start Maestro
2. start GIGA
3. then start Cubase from within GIGA
4. start the perf. tool.

the thing is: you will not be able to root all the channels from Cubase directly through the PT (perf. tool) cause the PT has no PORTS as f.e. Maestro.

What I did: (working with MIDEX)

Maestro: IN PORT 1: MIDEX Ch1 (Keyboard comes in there!)
GIGA: all ports <none>
Cubase: IN PORT: MIDEX7
PT: IN: MAESTRO port1, OUT: MIDEX8

You have to connect physically by cable MIDEX OUT8 with IN7

Then it works!!!!

BUT: only channel 1 inside PT works - no other channel!!!!!!
this is not too bad, since all MIDI information is recorded in Cubase...
Load the legato...blablabla.... perf. into the channel 1 of PT and you will see:
you can record the entire signal!

Better would be: (since the VSL team did it ONLY like that)

Computer1: CUBASE & MIDEX1
Computer2: GIGA & MIDEX2
Computer3. GIGA & MIDEX3

then connect them all physically! this is how it works perfectly!!!!

Hope this piece of information will help you - but won't probably save your day!
i am a little disappointed about this situation as well - but the guys at VSL will (surely?) hopefully work on that issue (i hope so - soory for that, Herb & Christian!) [:D]

Matt, thank you very much for your info!! What you're saying makes sense to me.
In my opinion (as a computer scientist), MIDI filters such as PT and Maestro are not
a satisfactory solution on the long run, anyway. Because once a few more libraries
come along that need their own MIDI tools (including drivers) there will be quite
a mess. Of course, neither (most) sequencers nor Giga have an open interface for
MIDI plugins, so these little tools are really the only possible solution right now.

However, considering the wonders you can work with PT in Legato Mode, the resulting
mess and limitations are a pretty cheap price to pay.

There may be a more elegant solution here. MaestroTools, in its latest version, runs as a plugin from within the Maple MIDI utility program. Maple is Jeff Hurchalla's (Jeff is the programmer of MaestroTools) new approach to this very problem. Like the original MaestroTools, Maple installs in front of GigaStudio but Maple is more flexible because all tools are in plugin form. Each developer can code special MIDI plugins that can be chosen from within Maple on a per channel/port basis. Michiel Post's Grandioso piano now uses a plugin for Maple that adds true pedaling to his piano. The user can choose to use the Grandioso plugin on one channel and MaestroTools on any of the others. I have no idea if there are any issues to creating a Maple plugin for the Performance Tool but it would certainly appear to be one possible solution to this problem.

I can only second Tom's suggestion: I would LOVE if you were interested in portating your Performance Tools for the Maple-shell, so that we would be able to use all those great libraries simultaneously without having to tamper around with the MIDI-setting for each part. I myself am experimenting with a "Virtual Performance Tool" for Logic, so that I was able to continue with my "real-time-workflow" for GOS and VSL. Seems not impossible to crack, that legato-nut. I hate to care about tool-settings for a recording which has been created months ago ("where was that notepad inside the sequencer??"). I like to nail down final results. Send them into GS and you are safe...

What you just mentioned is great news, indeed. I hope that the library developers
will take the opportunity to standardize their MIDI tools so that we don't get
addidional trouble (on top of that inflicted by Win and GS) from using these great and
innovative new libraries.

Hi everyone. It's like a new party yet seeing old friends and familiar faces. [:)] I thought I'd let folks know that Maple is publicly released freeware now at www.marblesound.com. You'll have to forgive the simple website, but it serves the purpose to let you download.
An optional part of the Maple install is a Layering plugin and/or a full CC spec Midi Control Surface. I like to think both are nice tricks to have in the midi tool repetoire. Hopefully we'll have more in the future

PS I forgot to mention if you happen to have an older Maple, uninstall it before installing this release - the installer is different and it won't see what the old installer did.
