  • Is there a difference between EXS24 and EXSMKII for the VSL?

I am currenty using digitalperformer and would get the EXS24 will this work with VSL?

  • I think you mean the EXSP24 which is a VST instrument. The EXS24 only works within Logic. The mkII version came with Logic 5.x and has many additional fetaures and as far as I know, the EXSP24 has NOT been upgraded yet.

The VSL team will have to comment about compatibility.
In the meantine, maybe look at Emagic's website:

  • We only focus on the EXS24 MKII version and don't have any informations about the VST EXSP 24. Only emagic could answer this question, if they have plans to update the EXSP 24.

  • Besides the fact that the VST version of EXS (EXSP24) doesn't have the Giga-esque features, it's not like you'd really want to run VSL on the same computer as your main sequencer/recorder. Sure, if you were just playing some percussion samples or a few string lines your computer might cut it, but this is really the kind of library that requires a separate computer - whether a PC (Giga) or a Mac (Logic/EXS).

I doubt many serious Logic users are intending to use VSL under their main system. I think the main attraction of an EXS version is the ability to run the library on a Mac rather than a crummy finicky PC. Sure, you'll have to buy a second Mac and a copy of Logic and EXS, but then you get stability, familiarity, and a powerful system without stupid limits of Ram usage like within Giga.

  • Steve,
I've been wondering about that. I have a Dual 1.25Ghz G4, but I still also have an "old" Dual 800 G4 sitting around. Should I keep it for VSL?

It gets more tricky as I think about another soundcard, maybe a second RME Hammerfall, plus reconfiguring my desk (a Mackie d8b). I was contemplating trying out the freeze function in Logic 6 before I commit to these changes.

What's the best way to link 2 Macs together for VSL? MIDI? Ethernet?
