  • performance tool

I bought the "complete orchestral" package, and on my first steps through the huge amount of samples I got a little bit lost.
But I still agree with lots of other its a great library!

BTW: The performance tool works very well with the keyboard, but I'm not a keyboard player. The most of the time I'm working with a notation program. But I didn't find a method to link the performance tool to the notation program on the one and the GigaStudio 160 on the other side.

    Any ideas?
    Any expierience?

  • This is of great interest also to me. If someone from the VSL team could answer this question, that would be fine.

    Thanks

  • Jovan,

if you are playing via keyboard do use a sequenzer or is it connected to your notation programm, or do you go directly with the keyboard (Midi) into Gigastudio (via our Tool)?

In general there is no difference between a notation programm and a sequenzer for the midi connections.
(I'm no midi and notation programm expert, please correct me if I'm wrong)

Working with notation programm and gigastudio on one engine needs also a midirouting programm lime midiyoke or something else.

    best wishes

  • Herb, [*-)]:

What I would like to know is this: I have Gigastudio on separate machines and I do use a MAC for sequencing. Sometime I do write things which are much to difficult -for me- to play in with the keyboard in real-time, so I do write them in, either in Logic's score or matrix windows and sometime I do write them with Sibelius, import the in to Logic as a MIDI file and edit them. Will I be able to benefit from the advantages of the performance tool - legato etc, while doing this procedure, yes or no [*-)]: Or is the performance tool only intended for use playing in with a keyboard [*-)]: Sorry, but I did not completely did understand your first answer. [:O]ops:

Thank you very much for considering my question.

  • Greetings, IGOR

The guys at VSL can correct me if I am wrong, but the performance tool simply takes MIDI data from one of the MIDI In ports and maps it out to GigaStudio after processing it. It doesn't care if the device feeding the port MIDI data is a Keyboard or a sequencer.

So, you can write a piece in one of Logic's MIDI editors, and as long as the piece is within the range of the instrument and the MIDI routing is set up correctly the performance tool will work just as if you had played it "live".

  • Hi. I use the alternation tool with Sibelius and it works perfectly. I have the Garritan Strings set so the Marble Midi ports are already on my machine. I simply select Marble Midi Out 1 as the port in the Sibelius mixer, then select Marble Midi In 1 as the in port on the alternation tool and Nemysis Out Port 1 as the out port on the tool. Works like a charm.

  • the legato tool should work just fine, even if you are only NOTATING in the sequencer. Just be sure that your notes are notated in a legato fashion. This means you might need to add extra duration to all notes so that they slightly overlap. The legato is monophic and works when playing legato, IE you slightly overlap each note (as you usually would in legato piano playing).

    Did I make any sense?!

  • Basil, Jim, Robert,

Thank you so much for taking the time in order to answer my question! Actually this is what I thought, but I just wanted to be absolutely sure before ordering. - I will order VSL today [:D]

    Hi Herb,

I go directly with the keyboard into the GigaStudio 160.
I also choosed MIDI 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 as output of the notation program. but this leads directly to the GigaStudio I do not see the performance tool working, only if I play the keyboard.

Until now I could allways link the MIDI output of the notation program (Encore, Ouverture, Harmony Assistent) directly to the Gigastudio without any special midi routing program.

If I play legato with my other libraries (Advanced Orchestra or Garritan Orchestral Strings) I use the method of short overlapping of the notes, which can be easy achieved with the notation program, but this doesn't have any effect on the performance tool and the performance samples.

It's quite uncomfortable to record a comlete orchestra score with the keyboard, much easier to use the notation program. I like to add a "key"-system to each inastrument, which handles all the keys, modwheel and so on. And if I have to print out the score I simple set the "key"-systems to unvisible.

So we have to think over...
