  • VSL Piano Sample?

    Hi,
I'm wodering if VSL is going to anounce VSL Piano samples with 24bit 96 Khz?
Accually there are plenty of huge piano samples around, but none of them sampled with different playing technique and special silent room (without reverb)

  • Hi,

I know VSL in already made in 24 bits / 96Khz ... we have to wait the Gigastudio 3.0 and buy more RAM, HDD

  • Wow. Asking someone to take the VSL approach to piano would be really cruel! That would mean recording every combination of notes pedal-up and pedal-down...

In the meantime, there are some excellent piano libraries that work well in a "concert" setting. I've been very happy with the Post Bösendorfer Grandioso, but there are others. Kip's Bardstown is supposed to be very good, for example.

Electronic Musician had a review of a bunch of them recently. You can skip over the exhaustive introduction that explains how a piano works.

  • Shhhhh!!! Don't you _DARE_ asking Herb for a VSL-piano!!! [6]
We want to have a life, eventually!

  • EXS24mkII is currently a bit light in voices (64, 35 w/velocity filtration enabled) for a classical piano, though I hear it works okay for jazz sans pedal.

Careful what you wish for! [:)]

  • I mean ... VSL Orchestral Cube and Performance Set in 24bits/96Khz ... not VSL Piano ... sorry for the confusion

  • VSL Concert Guitar. Sooner or later someone is going to do this.

  • 24/96, piano? hey guys, give me some time to provide raidspace to store and a cluster to provide replication for this [;)]

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • I remember Herb said "the piano is the single most difficult instrument to sample."

This blew me away, coming from him. At first I denied it, and then I got to thinking about it. He's probably right, considering a few guys like Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Liszt. I guess he is not yet ready to approach this, though when he does - nothing else will exist.

  • Yeah, William. I'm truly interested in Piano a la Herb, but I want to hear it come to his full expression before it goes to production.

I vote with Alex: Concert Guitar first, both because it's needed and begging for VSL treatment, and because Herb already mentioned he hired someone who did thesis or dissertation on the subject, expressly for the project.

    Best all,

  • Well - a classical guitar was announced for this automn to be be released?

How is that advancing, Herb? [:)]
