  • Demo Cube Legato Tool Problem

I got your demo cube but I have a problem with using the Legato Tool Demo. Since I'm using Gigastudio 2.53 and Cubase SX 1.05 on the same computer I was told that I need to have the Midi Yoke for Windows XP which I'm using. When installing it everything went fine but Gigastudio starts up really slow and when I check my system performance my cpu usage is 99% and 100% never going lower. When I uninstalled Midi Yoke Gigastudio went down to 2% around which is normal. What should I do and is there any other program besides Midi Yoke to use the Legato tool for? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • Here's the e-mail address of the MIDI Yoke's developer. You should really contact him about this as these tools were primary designed to be run on a dedicated GigaStudio computer.

    Jamie O'Connell: JamieOConnell@midiox.com

There could be several issues at work starting with how much RAM you have. If you have more than 1GB of RAM, Giga may not work correctly since it maxes out at 1GB because of the way it's coded. In some cases, you can coax GigaStudio to operate at 1.2 to 1.5GB RAM. Any information we have on this is strictly anecdotal.

Another possible issue could be the MIDI interface you're using. If you're using MIDEX from Steinberg, there could be conflicts there as not all programs are supporting MIDEX at this point.

Since you provided no system specs for your setup, it's difficult to guess what the issues are, but this is at least a starting point. There is another such device called Hubie's MIDI Loopback (http://members.magnet.at/hubwin/midi.html) and yet another from Ntonyx called the Virtual Loop Cable.

In all, we suggest you talk with the developer (www.midiox.com) since the issue seems to be between Cubase SX 1.05 and GigaStudio on the same drive.

  • Thanks for your response! I just read your reply and will try to do what you suggest about contacting midiox. My system specs are. 2400+ amd processor, 1 80 gig drive dedicated to audio, another 200 gig drive dedicated to Giga files, and a 40 gig drive for windows and programs. I have 1 gigabyte of ddr 2100 ram ( 2 512's), I'm using Windows XP, My soundcard is the RME Multiface using the Hammerfall DSP system. I've been having great success running just Gigastudio and Cubase together so it has to be Midiox. You mentioned Virtual Loop Cable and Hubie's MIDI Loopback....are these like Midiox's? Hope to hear from you again! Thank you!

we had the same effect with a W2K-system with GS and an AMT-8
i found thbe following comments in the document provided with midiyoke:

The powerful nature of MIDI Yoke requires that a bit of care be exercised in it's use: do not connect the outputs of one port to the same number inputs within a single application. If you do, it will cause MIDI feedback -- this phenomena will bring a computer to it's knees, and likely crash the system.

Make sure you don't leave an expanded MYOKENT.DLL in your MIDI-OX directory: If Windows NT finds this file it attempts to load it instead of the system one, and anomalies result. It's perfectly okay to leave the compressed version in your MIDI-OX directory (MYOKENT.DL_)

but i see there is a new version (6.5.1 dated 01/04/03) available which i tested (unfortunally without having a GS here) and works pretty perfect

    hope that helps, christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thank you very much for your reply! I think that could definitely maybe fix my problem! I'll go find out now. Thank you all for being so caring to help [:)] I'll let you know if I get it right.

  • I'm running GigaStudio 160 & Cubase SX on the same machine with absolutely no problems what so ever......Flawless.
It's sounding to me as though the Performance Tools are meant to be run on a dedicated Giga Machine? Is this the case? I'm hoping this isn't the case.....

    Thanks.

  • Well I have found that Midi Yoke is in fact bad at least on my computer with Windows XP and Gigastudio. I've tried Midiox as well and have had no luck. Anyone else using the legato demo and a sequencer like Cubase SX and Gigastudio been able to run a virtual midi program with it? Moderators what do you suggest? In the forums of Midi Yoke the author of the program doesn't know a solution. Ntonyx Midi Matrix is similar to Midi Yoke except it costs a little money as it's not freeware. That may be the only solution [:(]

  • you don't mentioned you tried Hubie's MIDI Loopback , I connected everything to everything with it, and for me this program always worked fine

  • Isn't Hubie's Midi loopback ONLY for windows 98 and not Windows XP? If not then great as I really want everything to work [:)]. HAve you tried midi loopback with the legato tool, gigastudio, and your sequencer? Looking forward to your response...

    I like MIDIoverLAN+

It creates multi-ports, ports over a LAN connection, and internal "pipes" which are the equivalent of Hubi's.

    from www.musiclab.com

The only caveat is with MIDIoverLAN, you must run the VSL performance tool in Win2K compatibility mode (which is very easy to do, from the icon's right-click menu).

  • Sonic Foundry's Virtual MIDI Router also works great on WinXP. I've used it between Gigastudio & SX with no problems.
