  • if Kontakt goes for disk streaming will you consider it?

    Hello.
It seems that NI are delaying a bit the Kontakt disk streaming update promised for November.

Anyway, if they finally do add it, will you consider releasing a Kontakt native version?
It would be interesting, considering how streamlined kontakt interface is...

Although they´re certainly improving the GIGA import, having to import all this samples to native Kontakt format is something I wouldn´t want to do. [*-)]

  • Hello netvudu,

I'm in the process of deciding which platform (Cubase or Logic) and sampler (Kontakt or EXS24) to pick for the soon-to-be-released vienna library and I'm curious as to why you wouldn't want to import GIGA to native kontakt. From your experience, is the kontakt importing process complicated? Time consuming? Taxing on your CPU? Or do the imports fail to incorporate all of the features of the original GIGA?

I've heard great things about Kontakt (except that the native Mac OS X version is not out yet [:(]). But is it a worthy choice for vienna?

Thanks, I'd very much appreciate the input. [:D]

P.S. For those of you who are lucky enough to have Vienna in your hands right now [H], and if you are a GIGA user who happens to have kontakt, let me know how well you can import to kontakt. Many thanks.

  • As no mods reply to my messages, it´s good to see someone who reads them.

Let´s see. I can´t answer to your last question, simply because as you can see I don´t know if there will be a Vienna version for Kontakt (that´s what I´m asking at this post)
Kontakt, import of giga files, in my own experience, is pretty good already BUT NOT ENOUGH. I mean, you loose some of the bells&whistles of the giga format and you just get a nice sounding program.
Hopefully when/if they add disk streaming, the import will be perfect.

Overall, I can´t judge GigaStudio as I never used it, but for what I read in forums, Kontakt seems way better than Giga in terms of CPU usage and also in terms of setup. The interface is also amazingly streamlined and friendly BUT I can´t recommend it for Vienna because:

    a) I don´t know if it wil be a Vienna version of kontakt.
    b) I don´t know when Kontakt will feature disk-streaming.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hello Netvudu,

you can be sure that we recognize all of your postings. There can be several reasons why we're not responding right away:

    1. We're terribly busy at the moment as we're just about to ship the First Edition. Right now for example we have just set up the Shop pages on this website which was a lot of work. Sometimes we simply don't have the time to respond that quickly.

    2. This is a forum where users should also discuss with users, it's not only a Q & A game between you and us. Of course we gladly answer your questions, too!

    3. Sometimes we don't want to answer or we cannot answer - either because we don't know the answer or because we are not allowed to say it out of several reasons.

We are very happy that so many of you engage in discussing your issues here! Not responding quickly doesn't mean we don't respect your wishes and suggestions! I'm sure you'll understand.

  • Absolutely, Martin.
Thanks for your reply. I think I only needed a "first one". [:)]

I feel better now that I know there´s a "big eye watching" [:D]

  • Well, my eyes are not so big anymore--I'm working too much... [[;)]]
    Best,
    Martin

  • I myself prefer a native Kontact version than imported from the Giga format:

    1. Loading samples with Kontact allow me to insert VST plug-ins in realtime. I can't live without the 1176LN, LA2A & Pultec plug-ins from my UAD-1, and I hate it when I can't apply them to my samples sounds, like in GigaStudio.

    2. Kontact still got some problem importing Giga's samples. Mostly with pitch tracking, when the programs don't have individual samples for each keyzone.

    3. My experience with Halion is not good. It simply sounds strange most of the time.
