  • 2nd Demo using VSL and HALion

    All,

I hope I'm ok to keep posting my demos. As explained earlier I am very new to the music world and would welcome as much feedback as possible.
This 2nd demo uses VSL and is not quantised (except for the drums) - something I got slated for on my first demo.

Anyway if you are interested the file can be found here http://timkiel.com/Music/Songs/Kadesh.htm">http://timkiel.com/Music/Songs/Kadesh.htm.

Also Paul/Dietz if I shouldn't be posting topics like this here please let me know and I'll refrain.

    Many thanks

    Tim

  • Hi,
That's a very nice sound you have created. Be proud, because only a small amount of composers are able to do that. Compliment!
I only wonder about the crackles I could hear at the Demo ... Is it kind of a plug-in? Or overdriven?

I would be happy to hear some more stuff of your compositions.

    Greetings,
    Hans-Peter.

  • oh .. there is still something to explain...
however, the last demo you posted into the forum wasn't bad, but it sounded not really natural (the violins) ... not because of the quantization but of the Velocity you used. (sorry for that english) [:)]
I noticed the Violins played every note in ff, which doesn't give you the impression of real violins, seating in front of you and playing their stuff.
For example: Martin Sprujitens "Train Catcher" is also very quantized ... Have you already heard it? But the sound isn't bad at all.

    Hope this helps you...

    Greetings,
    Hans-Peter.

  • Musicmaster,

Thanks. I agree the Viola section is a little "wooden" I've been trying to make it sound a little more real but am finding it tricky to do so - i'll experiment with different velocity settings as you suggest.

Not sure about the crackles though - i ran the whole thing through a mastering fx which may have boosted the levels a little too much - has anyone else had this problem? Could you let me know at what point (in seconds) and i'll investigate further?

    Cheers

    Tim

  • hi Tim!

    Nicely done!
just pay attention to the strings: try to make them "link" more fluent.
They'll sound better (more real) that way... [[;)]]

You should not hear a gap in between them...

    Hope that helps
