  • strange behavior running as AU plugin?

    Howdy Folks,

I'm new to the VSL scene - just got Appassionata Strings, Epic Horns, Harps, etc. andi now that it's all up & running, I'd love some confirmation as to whether this is normal behavior:

When I open Vienna Instruments AU plugin in Logic, I get a little window that says "Vienna Instruments AudioUnit-Server Interface" with a button bar that says "open window."

I know VSL uses its own server, but wouldn't it be a little more convenient to just open the window upon calling up the plugin, like every other mfr's product? Maybe I'm missing something though.

Also, when I check Activity Monitor, I see "vsldaemon (Not Responding) in red. That doesn't look good, but I don't know how to interpret that.

One other thing - when I run VI standalone, it resets my system sample rate to 192k, and there's no option that I can find to set a different default rate. The "Options" menu only has one item (ingore MIDI input).

    Any thoughts appreciated!

This is exactly how it is supposed to behave. Since VI is a server application running in the background when used with any AU or VST host the daemon appears as being "not active" to the OS as long as it is not actually adressed.

I don´t know about your  sample rate problem and will look into it.

    Best regards,

  • Thanks, Maya. That all makes sense - just wanted to be sure I was doing everything correctly. The separate VSL server approach is a great idea by the way - helps get more out of a single machine. If there were a way to just open the plugin interface immediately as with all other products, that would sure be nice though! Thanks again, Jim Daneker
