  • Hanging in a loop at PlaySTOP

I'm using VI Special Edition in Sequoia 9.1.1 and experience strange behaviour when stopping playback. The last buffer gets played back repeatedly, it is hanging in a loop. It takes some seconds until the sound finally stops.

Is that a solveable issue with VI? Kontakt and WIVI work fine so far.

I'm using ASIO buffers 256 on a RME Hammerfall DSP PCIe card, if that's an issue. Do you need more information? I remember having had that occasionally also on my old system.

  • Another thread:

I'm using a Matrox Parhelia APVe.
It only occurs on ASIO, but I need to use ASIO.

  • mathis, unfortunately you linked to the forum start page ... rightclicking on the little document symbol left bottom of a posting and *copy shortcut* would give you the url ...

we noticed this effect lately with newest samplitude (which we've been told uses the same engine) and the issue is already under investigation.
however it does not occur with sequoia 7 ....

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Hi Christian,

    I changed the links.
Good to hear that you're working on it. I also read on the Samplitude forum that they got a copy of VI SE, so they'll be working onit as well.

Yes, Samplitude's audio engine was and is exactly the same as Sequoia's one. The difference between v7 and v9 is the Hybrid Engine, which came with v9. It is a low latency engine working on ASIO buffers, the earlier engine (stille there as economy engine) works with higher buffers and doesn't allow for monitring through the mixer. Sequoiatude is actually more similar to the other native DAWs now. And as I see in these other threads the problem doesn't relate exclusively to Sampliquoia. I also read something similar on the Sibelius5 chat page some time ago, but I don't find it. But I will report later how it is working with my Sibelius.

  • It's not as bad as in Sequoia but also in Sibelius it will play back the last buffer once again.

  • thank you for the links. carsten was of great help to reproduce it here, though on his system the stutter also appears with cubase and initially we assumed it would be related to a certain soundcard. bjarne's issue must be related to something else because sonar usually plays fine.

we will keep you updated, christian

  • I'm a beta tester for Sequoia so if I can test something for you I'll gladly do.
But I'm not really convinced that it's a host problem since I have this problem in Sibelius as well.

Curiously, though, I had the same problem on my old PC as well. The only things in common are the UAD card, the Storm card and a Matrox Graphics card. Could you imagine the problem related to a more basic layer like hardware/drivers?

What I really don't understand is that it still behaves like this in my new scenario, in which I use Sequoia as the VSTi and Sibelius (with switched off ASIO engine) as Midi generator, linked via Maple Midi ports.

I would have thought that some Midi Start or Stop command would cause these effects, but analysing the midi stream in Midi-OX I only see Midi On and Off's and controller data. Nothing more than what the content in the regular midi stream is (and while playing this works perfect).
Slightly confused here, but maybe that helps you.

  • Sometimes a Preference for Re-set on Stop can cause unwanted audio effects like this. Worth checking out anyway.

  • Could you elaborate on Re-Set on Stop? I've never heard of this parameter.

    In Nuendo it is:

    Preferences/General/MIDI/Reset on Stop

Unchecking this box got rid of the noises that I was experiencing.
