  • 34 seconds "action" demo with VI SE

    hello everyone,

i sometimes produce some demosound for myselfe to learn something about orchestrating. The one below is one of these. I feel like the sound isnt as "punchy" as it should be. Is this a matter of orchestrating or a matter
of mixing. Propably you can hear that i did no panning. to me it sound more aggressiv that way. And thats what i aim with that demo.

On the other hand i want it to sound not too unnatural, thats why i avoid compressors and stuff.

I would be glad if some of you could give me a tip or an horribly honest feedback. If not, I hope some of you enjoy the pease of music

This isn't the feedback you expect but:
I'm happy that you was successful in loading up an mp3 file [:D] [:D] [:D]

  • this really isn`t the feedback i expexted [:D] . But thank you anyway beat. if there are any other coments by someone (concerning the music) that would be great. Even if its not about the sound.

  • Major,

I do not have a long experience with VSE yet but,
as composer I would like to say that your orchestration is very good.

    Also,
the composition keep the listener on his toes.
    Interesting events every second...

    Not to much reverb too...

  • Thank you very much migot. That really means a lot to me.

  • Good ideas, but you would need big lungs to keep that up.

  • thank you PaulR,
i didn`t know that. but would it be possible to play?
well, thats the curse of samples. they can play almost everything, and because i play the cello (and you don`t need big lungs therefor) i don`t know what is possible for wind-instruments

    best,

  • I actually think that the lack of punchiness is the result of both orchestration and mixing. Your reverb is very plain, and there is no panning. I feel that alot of this piece is copied and pasted, which is something you should never do. For example, the low piano notes are very repetative, I think that speding a little more time with a variance of velocities and counter-melodies could really help this.

Oh, and I do not think that the solo in the beginning is playable, at least not for that long. It'd be good to cut at some point, anyway.
