  • VI String Quartet inside Sibelius

While managing the VI sound into Sibelius I could'nt figure out how to assign twice the solo violin perf legato to both the violin I and the violin II.
There is no violin 2 instance in the Sibelius sound preset choice, so the 2 violins are using the same VI perf leg patch and kill themself.

Any idea greatly welcome, this is a great way of writing the music directly into Sibelius without using Logic Pro.

  • For the second violin, use:
    strings.violin.2
    instead of:
    strings.violin

  • Thanks for your answer mathis, I would love so much to make it work.
    I could'nt find the "strings.violin.2"
    so I added a .2

with no success, it seems Sibelius keep trying to use only one VI instance, even if it's duplicated.
This should not be so hard to route the second violin to a specific sound…

Could you please give me more details about your advice ?

    Thanks again

  • what version of sibelius are you using and how are you connecting the VI to Sibelius?

  • Version 5 (newest) the VI are loaded inside Sibelius via Audio unit plugs.

  • Hello Laurent!

It seems to me, that you have made everything right, so I am not really shure why it does not work properly. Just to go for sure I write down some points for you to check again.
    - In your playback configuration (Sibelius) you need to open 4 instances of the VI.
    - In the first and second instance load the desired violin patch (probably the legato patch)
    - In the third and fourth instance load the desired viola respectively cello patch.
    - If not set automatically choose the right sound ID for each instance of the VI in "Manual Sound Sets". It is not necessary to set the second violin to "strings.violin.2". "strings".violin" (as with the first violin) will do.
    - Save your playback configuration after that.
    - Check the Sibelius mixer. The first violin should be rooted to "VSL". The second violin to "VSL(2)". The viola to "VSL(3)". And the cello to "VSL(4)".

    Hope that helps.
