  • Hello, I´m new at this and pretty new at that.

    Hello from Madrid, Spain.
Firstly, I would like to appologize if my post is somehow not up to the level of knowledge which I can see that people shows around here. I would also want to appologize for the lenght of this post.

I´m a graphics designer and 3d animation is my passion (apart from my job). Now, my OTHER passion has always been music, and I even created (free) musical works for friend´s short films and demos occasionally. (plus, I´m not the worst guitar player in the world [[;)]] )

After some time far from computer music I´ve returned for good [[:D]] I always wanted to give a serious try to orchestral arrangements but found most demos from products a bit lacking on realism. You know, that kind of "almost there, but not quite..." feeling. People used to hearing a lot of music and used to computer music (and I think I can count myself into this group) can tell the difference.
BUT, I just found about your product and it sounds so good I can hardly believe it. I find myself tempted of calling you liars and require you to free all those kidnapped musicians inside your little boxes [:D]

Seriously, the amount of sections in your demos which somehow revealed their CG nature is amazingly low and way better than I could ever expect from a computer. Most importantly, I have the feeling I could reduce those "CG moments" to zero with practice and maybe a different orchestration. (not implying your demos aren´t good. I would like in fact to congratulate the people who created them. They serve their purpose most notably)

Here end the compliments. Now for the important part [:P] , I´m trying to decide how to get into all this. My terrible problem is that I am a Pc user, but I doubt I´ll be able to use a dedicated machine (I have to use all of my systems (two) for rendering my 3d works!! [[:)]] ) Plus, I heard that Apple bought Emagic´s Logic Audio, so I doubt that will be my solution either, seeing how I won´t get access to any PC version after 5.5.

So, I would like to know if there will be any other kind of solution for someone like me sooner or later. Cubase is definitely a pro system, one with a good (IMHO very good) MIDI sequencer, and I find it weird nobody will be able to use it with this terrific library and any of those modern soft samplers that work with it (Kontakt, HALion). What are these soft samplers lacking on to make VSL work properly, that GIGA and EXS24 mk II do feature? [*-)]:

My budget isn´t too high, but I was hoping to slowly build up the library buying the sets separately and slowly (and patiently) build up the whole thing.
I DO UNDERSTAND that this is a pro-oriented and demanding product, and maybe your only answer might very well be "sorry, you´ll have to buy a dedicated machine or a Mac". I would understand this and appreciate your honesty if such was the case.

In the same line I would like to know if you could explan with slightly more down-to-earth words [:O]ops: how the performance set works and how it´s used...I suppose I´m more or less asking about the workflow given I was using all the stuff.
Also, how much HD space might be enough for working with this library acceptably, even if I didn´t save it all to my HD? 40 gigs, 60gigs, 80 gigs ...how much might be enough?

The last one, how can anybody be able to pronounce those four-consonant-in-a-row german words? [[:D]]

Thanks in advance for your time and your replies. [[:)]]

  • sorry, after rereading this, I understood why you haven´t replied. It´s way too long and quite off-topic. You´re not here for teaching sampling, but for asnwering stuff concerning Vienna.
    I apologize. [:O]ops:
