I'm sure if Cage was alive he'd manufacture samples for 4'33", and they would be expensive! [:D]

Of course since 4'33" is an extraordinary Pianopiece that uses all keys in the same way, you have to sample them all over the keyboard

... of course, those are the very special Keyboard samples that are still missing in the new VSL Sampleset. [[;)]]

  • I could imagine during the recording session at Abbey Road studio, all the recording engineers looking at each other, confused [8-)] , while John Cage is recording these samples....

  • Yes. Also the mastering engineer wondering whether to apply further noise reduction . . . [*-)]

Of course thatt will be a nightmare for every mediocre Masteringchap:
to keep the original 4'33" of each key without any perceptible disturbances at all. -
Thats the ultimate challenge only the VSL-Team is ready to cope with [[;)]]

  • If ever it's released I'm very concerned about using the right speakers.
Maybe Dietz can be some help....

  • I've designed a speaker especially for playback of this piece - it is weightless, invisible, signal-free and requires no electricity or audio connection. VSL users can buy them from me at a special discount rate of $4999 a pair. [[;)]]

I'm also considering developing a weightless, invisible woofer to cope with the challenging silent sub-bass frequencies of Cage's "masterpiece".

  • wonderful... in need this speakers!!!

    maybe we can exchange...

i designed a special anti-limiter and a special time-strech-plug to get the 4'33 into 4 years and 33 months without sound artefacts (especially designed for use in a church [:)])

These are EXACTLY what I'm looking for, especially since I was running out of place in my computer area. I'll definitely order a pair, even 2. I'll be paying with my numberless credit card, it works with the "Unexsisting Bank of Canada".

Wait till I tell my imaginary wife, Ingrid, about this!

Great, I look forward to receiving your non-payment. I forgot to mention that as well as being invisible and weightless the speakers are constructed of non-matter, so you may have a bit of trouble setting them up.

A word of caution Guy: psychologists have warned that arguments about money with imaginary spouses can cause anxiety and depression. I'm sure that "Ingrid" is very understanding, but rather than admit to her that you shelled out five thousand non-bucks on a pair of fictitious speakers to play back a silent piece lasting 4 years 33 months, tell her you bought a coffee table instead.

    Hi Conquer
I'm very interested in your ghost-speaker-offer too. But I have some questions first:
Includes the $4999.- the delivery as well? Or are you able to "beam" them?
If yes, do you need the coordinates of the end positions or those of my letterbox/ front door? May I beam the invisible packing material back to you? Are there any rights of return? [[[;)]]]

Guy: Thanks for paying compliment on my Brandenburg Concerto.

I'll have you know I'm perfectly sane! Now, I found out today that Ingrid is having an affair with my unseen psychologist. That's it, I'm getting those speakers!

Sorry Beat, no returns. In the event that the speakers fail to reproduce the silence of the Cage piece perfectly, users can create their own sound-free environment by A) inserting ear plugs and sticking their head under a pile of thick blankets, or B) renting the Silent Stage from VSL.

That's terrible Guy. Imaginary women, eh?

  • I received those speakers, they are as legit as Barry Bonds homeruns.....
