  • Stuck notes, clipped notes

After finding out that the RAM in my MacBookPro Core 2 Duo wasn't working right, I replaced it and enjoyed a day or two of trouble free recording with my relatively new Symphonic Cube on my Pro Logic 7.3.
Those days are gone. First, Core Audio Overload messages crept back in, then playback occasionally ceased altogether (as happened all the time before I changed the RAM and upped it to 3 Gigs, the max) sustained notes began to clip, and, perhaps worst of all, MIDI notes started sticking and feeding back. At first this wasn't too bad, as notes in a few tracks kept playing after the piece was over. But now notes keep sounding during all playback. The result might be good for a horror movie, but that's it.
Movie wise, my ongoing troubles getting VS to work on my system (includes 002 Digi interface and a Glyph 500 GIg external drive more reminds me of the film "The Awakening," where catatonic patients come back to consciousness for a short time, then zone out again.
No one seems to have a clue as to why the notes are sticking during playback. And it uncertain whether my setup can handle more than a few instances of VSL. But one thing at a time. Anyone have an experience with stuck notes in playback? Any solutions?
Thanks for any help! Til I solve these issues, I'll keep parrotting Marlin Brando in "Apocalyse Now."
    "The horror! The horror!"

  • Hi Tom,

errors like this are often resolved by making sure your audio interface has the latest firmware and that you have the latest drivers installed. If you're using OS X 10.4.x, be sure to update to OS X 10.4.10 (unless you know for sure that it's incompatible some software or hardware you own). Make sure you have the latest software versions of any 3rd party virtual instruments/plug-in´s you have installed.

After running all your updates, I´d recommend to run Disk Utility to verify your hard drives and repair disk permissions.

Regarding Core Audio Overload messages you´ll find a very helpful article (Article ID: 304970) by Apple here:
