To me, no, and I suspect this is due to the same reason that makes an hypotetical 64-bit graphic card most probably pointless: due to physiological limits, our eyes would barely notice the difference wih a 32 bit (16,8 millions of colors) one.

I do have VI SE (24 bit) and it sounds good, but I'm seriously considering the purchase of Pro Edition (16 bit) because, IMHO, 16 bit are more than enough either for the professionist and the serious amateur.

I suspect you're probably right... in any event, the trills and runs would be fleating. The main reason I want to purchase the VI SE is the improved workflow.

Definitively yes.
I listened back again to one of the best demos done with Pro Edition (the "Blue Danube" Waltz introduction).
I dare anybody to say: "Booo, it's a 16 bit library...", but, on the other hand, Jay Bacal did an enchanting Ravel's demo with just Horizon library.

Regarding the tool, VI is light-years better than Performance Tool, but it all depends on one's wallet...

That's a good point. And i hope they do. VI SE is going to be on everybody's wish list if they release every articulation missing from Opus and a little more.

About 16 and 24 bit i don't think VSL sample will suffer much as the 16 bit is focus on the instrument rather than the instrument ''and'' the ambiance you have in other libraries.

I don't know how is called in English a person that looks in the trashcans along a street, searching for food remnants. The Pro Edition special offer makes me feel something like that, but I consider picking up the abandonware a very wise way of life. I rely on a future special offer of Vienna Instruments, too.

Absolutely. Go for it - the VI will help your work rate and the SE will give you a great instrumental palette to work with.

I don't know! [:D] I personally would not like to have let say my legatos on one midi tracks using VI and the rest on a second midi track using a sampler for example. I would hate it I'm sure. But that's just me.

A viable alternative, if, as me, one has a limited budget, could be going on with Opus Bundle but reinforcing the string section buying the (Extended) Appassionata Strings and, eventually, adding the Horizon Epic Horns and Horizon Woodwind Ensembles.

The grand total equals approx to the discounted Pro Edition for Opus Bundle users (±1.490 euros), but you get a far richer string (and brass) section.

I am considering also such a compromise.
