  • Questions about Custom Data Folder

I've searched the forums and read the threads with questions about the Custom Data folder, but I still can't figure out what I might be doing wrong. I'm not able to change the location of my Custom Data folder and have the matrices show up where I store them.

When I run Directory Manager, I can change the Custom Data folder there, then re scan, but back in the VI interface, the matrix selection tree doesn't show them, and I'm presented with the original Custom Data folder at C[[:P]]rogram File/Vienna Instruments/Custom Data.

I have VI on two slave XP machines. I recently changed the folder locations of my the vsl samples and old matrix files, but I've entered new paths with the Directory Manager and rescanned.

Which brings me to these questions; maybe I will better understand what's going on if I ask them:

    1. Can you change the custom data folder to a completely new folder, and not use the original Custom Data folder in C[[:P]]rogram Files/Vienna Instruments/Custom Data?
    2. Is the problem I'm having due to moving my vsl samples and matrices to new folders in the first place?
    3. Out of curiosity, when I look into this original Custom Data Folder, I see no files at all. Where are the original VSL matrix and preset files stored?

Thanks, and so sorry to be long winded, but I wanted to be as clear as possible.

  • Ok. Reinstalled VSL and VI recognizes the new folders within my own custom data folder again.

I think I understand a bit better now how the file structure works, but correct me if I am wrong. VSL is always going to look at it's own Custom Data (presets and matrices) and include that in the preset/matrices pane no matter if I have designated a different folder to be the Custom Data Folder? So VI doesn't really change the folder, it just adds new places for the VI Player to look and be able to open/save from.

And my own custom folder (containing subfolders and stored elsewhere than the original Custom Data Folder), after pointing to it with the Directory Manager, will have its subfolders appear in both the Preset Pane and the Matrix Pane beneath the orginal VSL programmed Custom Data? But the subfolders are not able to appear in only one pane or the other separately. i.e. folders which contain .fxp data in the Preset Pane, and folders which contain .matrix data in the Matrix Pane.

However, the VSL programmed custom data is able to appear as separate folders -- presets in the Preset Pane and matrix in the Matrix Pane.

I think that's what was confusing me a bit. The folder viewing structure is slightly different for user created material and the VSL created material.

    But, I think I get it now! [:D] [I]

Sorry for the long posts, but I wanted to be as clear as possible in case others are having any difficulty with this.
Of course, please enlighten me if I've gotten something wrong.... [:(]
