  • There's a sale on Horizon products, 2 questions...

    1. What does Horizon libs have that the Stn. + Ext. SE edition not have?
Edit: Doing some comparison, I see a lot of differences, but what about the Chamber Strings lib and Epic Horns? Libs like that.
Edit: It's clear that pretty much every library has much more articulations than SE.

    2. Can I use the VSL sampler/tool with the horizon series libs?
Edit: Well it's pretty clear if you buy full version SE libs you save money if you already own Horizon libs

  • elan, a short rundown ...
the Vienna Instruments Collections are expanded versions related to the respective horizon series products (of course the full libraries only and they are 24bit instead of 16 bit) ... solo, chamber, ect

opus 1 + 2 have been the *essence* of the pro edition, whereas SE is the *essence* of the symphonic cube (V01-V10) plus some of the addistional collections

you cannot use any horizon series library with the Vienna Instruments player because of the different bit-depth as well as the special mapping and data format needed for Vienna Instruments - the horizon series have been designed to be loaded into third party sample players (giga, exs, kontakt, HALion)

in certain cases it might be clever to purchase horizon series products regarding possible discounts when upgrading later ...

  • "in certain cases it might be clever to purchase horizon series products regarding possible discounts when upgrading later ... "

Earlier this year, I encountered a pricing situation where, if I bought the EXS version, I'd pay (slightly) less to upgrade my VI from standard to extended. In other words, it was cheaper for me to get the EXS *and* the VI Extended than to buy just the Extended.

Needless to say, having the EXS version allows more latitude with RAM and additional editing through Keymap.

  • Christian,

I'm actually curious about something along these lines...

I'm kind of interested in getting some of the older libraries, simply because I like having access to the raw .wav files for some of my other work (programming stuff, mostly). Will discounts still be applicable when upgrading VIs later on? As an example:

I currently have Standard Woodwinds I and Brass I.
If I bought the Orchestral Cube (EXS or whatever), would I still get the discounts on the Extended libraries of the Woodwinds and Brass that are currently coming up on the Discount Calculator?

Thanks for any clarification. I would like to have those raw samples, but it's not really worth the money if the duplicate sample content doesn't qualify for discounts on the VIs later on.

    cheers,

    J.

  • jbm, when purchasing licenses for extended libraries all registered sample libraries will lead to the respective discounts - now or later, doesn't matter.

  • I drove over to Time & Space and bought 2 Horizon series in this sale offer. FX Percussion and Mallets. Highly recommended.
