  • VI Audio Unit Crashes Logic Validation and won't instantiate

Just finished installing the Synmphonic Cube and have also installed the latest software update (1.11).

When I run Logic, VSL does not appear in the plugin list. When I check Audio Unit validation, it has crashed the validation procedure and appears as version 1.0. I have repeatedly installed the 1.11 update, but it still appears in the Logic AU validator as 1.0.

When I forcable enable it in the validation window, and then try and instantiate it in Logic, a warning dialogue with a red cross flashes up so quickly I can't read it, and the plugin fails to instantiate. My dongle is installed in the main USB port, the library is installed on an external FW800 drive.

    Any help much appreciated.

System is Logic Pro 7.2.3, OS 10.4.9 (PPC), Mac G5 5GB Ram.

  • Are you running the latest version of VI software (not the version that came on the disks - - but one dowloaded from the website)? (I remember an early version of the VI software that took forever to validate - - and that, during the validation process, Activity Monitor showed Logic as "not responding." If you just continued to wait, it would eventually complete validation, but this took something like 10 minutes.)

If you have installed the latest version of VI software, try repairing permissions with Apple's Disk Utility. If that doesn't improve the situation, you might try rebuilding the startup disk's directory with Alsoft's DiskWarrior. I had a problem when, after updating from Altiverb 5 to Altiverb 6, Logic failed to recognize Altiverb 6 and kept issuing an error message stating that Altiverb 5 was missing. I rebuilt the directory with DiskWarrior and Logic immediately recognized and validated Altiverb 6. In my experience, rebuilding the directory with DiskWarrior has often fixed otherwise inexplicable or seemingly insoluble problems.

  • Hi Stephen

    Many thanks for your help.

I have installed the latest downloadable version of the software - 1.11 I believe - but this is the version that is giving the problems.

I have also manually enabled the plugin in Logic's AU validation application, because Logic refuses to 'pass' it as part of the automatic validation process. I can't help feeling there is something wrong with the licensing side of things, because as soon as I instantiate it in Logic, this dailogue pops up, which looks like a VSL dialogue, not a Logic one, but it disappears so quickly I can't read it.

I will check and repair the permissions on this volume as you suggest, but there is no evidence of problems - all of the other hundred or so plugins and instruments are running fine. I'm pretty sure it's an issue specific to the Vienn Instruments plugin. In fact it just ocurred to me, I should run the standalone version, and see if that sheds any light on what the problem may be ..... I'll do that as soon as I'm in the studio this morning.

    Thanks again for your help.
