  • play release

Can someone explain what is the function of "play release" button in VI?
Is there any use for it in the samples of SE?

On the manual it says : "Play release switches the triggering of release samples off or on. This can be very useful when playing faster passages, where tones with release samples would blur because they overlap too much with the next note. (Of course, this doesn’t apply to Interval Performances, only to “normal” Patches.)"

I tried to use it with sustain samples but didn't hear any difference between the off and on position of "play release".

    Thanks

  • It's not uncommon to be unable to hear release samples. The two most frequent reasons are slower release envelopes (of the sustain) and long reverb tails. Both obscure the release sample when it plays.

I don't know what's in SE. Try a trill patch (if they're any there). You'll hear the release sample playing the original note no matter when you let the key up. Without the release sample, a trill may cut off on the higher note. The slowest of fast-repetition patches usually have an audible release. You may hear the release more clearly in a tremolo patch too.

  • Thank you.
I tried the tremolo solo violin patch and the difference was clearly audible.
