  • Moving VI from one computer to another?

I just got a MacBook Pro 17" (high-res) and I want to transfer my license from my iMac G5 to the MacBook. My VSL samples are on an external hard drive that I simply want to plug into my new machine.

I don't see any documentation or video tutorial that specifically addresses this problem.

The License Control Center offers a License Transfer Wizard, but I don't want to transfer ownership. I just want to move the license from one computer to the other.

Do I remove the license from the iMac and then install it on the MacBook?

Please provide me with any tips you can spare. I want to avoid going through the nightmarish installation-from-scratch process again!

    Thanks!

    Scott

  • Hi Scott,

All you need to do is just take the Vienna Key out of your G5 and plug it in to the Mac Book Pro. Install the License Control Center so that your new computer can read your licenses on the key. After you do this, install the 1.11 Software Installer for Intel. Go to your Applications folder to launch the Vienna Instrument Directory Manager. Drag and drop all of the folders from your External Drive into the Directory Manager. All of the entries should be written so the Vienna Instrument Plug-in will know where the content is. Everything should work [:)]!

  • Austin,

Thanks! Your tip did the trick! I had forgotten about the fact that VI cannot recursively examine nested folders. I had manually added the top-level folder instead of dragging and dropping and so no samples were showing up. [I have the Special Edition.]

Yay! Now I can spent part of my weekend configuring music instead of configuring computers! [:D]

    Thanks again!
