  • finding the right library

    Hi
I am a new member from Australia my name is Robert. I have read up on the passion strings and the string 1 and string 2 collection. I want to buy my first vsl collection and was wondering what some users thing of these I am attracted to the pas. strings.. Any advice would be great !

    cheers

    RJS

  • Hi Robert. In a nutshell, the Appassionata Strings are beautifully lush due to their bigger section sizes, but if you need a lot of orchestral detail Orchestral Strings I and II are more versatile. I suggest you check out the 'articulations' of each on this site (and some of the demos) and think about their relevance (or otherwise!) to your music.

(Products -> Vienna Instruments I -> Orchestral Strings I (or II) -> Articulations. Appassionata Strings are listed under Vienna Instruments II.)

  • I think when used as main melody line the appassionata strings doesn't compare to strings 1 and 2, the extra warmth adds a lot, however some have done wonders with strings 1 & 2 in the past. Jay Bacal's Fantasia on a theme by TT is a nice example of appa.

  • Really you want both though. I'm finding layering the two (or layer appa with chamber depending) is essential.

Appassionata doesn't stand out as well on it's own but when you add a solo/chamber/orch it brings a lot of color to it. Appa is a good string enhancer.

  • Thank you!
