hi, i have just buy my first vienna instrument and i am realy surprised
Why is it not possible to choose the way to change sound. i have solo strings, opus 1+2 , sax and overdrive on exs 24 and i have all re-programmed by midi chanel change. so if i have a track i know that i can put it on every string, wind or brass instrument because all chanel 1 is legato, 2 is staccato, etc ... but now, it is impossible to choose the midi chanel, very strange ? because not technicaly so hard to do ?...
in fact i understand that midi chanel isn't usual for live prestation but for programmng it is super. you don't need to have a change for each sound , each note, you have just the note it is clear and their is no "wrong" note on the score !

  • is it possible to enter on the file .dat to put the sample on exs 24 ?

  • I don't quite understand. You can use the same controller for every instrument. I choose to use keyswitches, simple because I can play them live. they are the same for each instrument, so C is always legato, C# sustain, D staccato etc.

Regarding using VI in another sample player, the answer is no, and if you tried to do so I suspect that you would be in violation of the licence agreement.

  • Hi Thierry. The design of the VI is quite unusual - it does not have a MIDI channel select facility but instead plays in MIDI 'omni mode', responding to MIDI data on all sixteen channels simultaneously. To create a multitimbral VI set-up you have to open multiple VI's and set each one to play on a different MIDI channel.

This surprised me too, but I have found that because the VI can contain such a large number of articulations it's not the issue I thought it would be. To get the best out of the instrument it's advisable to use switching to select different perfomance styles - there are many ways of doing this (all explained in the manual) and it's quite easy once you get used to it. If you have only one VI collection you will find you can achieve a lot using only one instance.

The VI samples will not open in any other sampler format, they are formatted exclusively for the VI.

  • ok so i will still use my old opus 1+2 for each combi multitmbral in exs and only use vi for one track: the legato one.

it would be so better to have all horizontal by midi and vertical line by other.

my config is full so i can't use one vi for each track, & midi chanel
