  • possible to stream from an USB HD?

My HD space is getting low and I'm thinking if it was possible to stream from an external USB 2.0 HD. Since the possible throughput is 300MB/sec a certain amount of streaming should be possible, I assume.
Of couse, I can always exchange my internal HD, but somehow I never like the idea of doing any kind of surgery on my music PC.

One has to take into account that I am "only" using the Special Edition, and the number of samples is much lower there, I assmume?

    tele

  • tele, in case of emergency you could use USB 2.0 too, but be aware that the theoretically possible troughput for USB 2.0 is 480 Mb/s (megabit per second) which is 60 MB/s (megabyte per second) minus a significant overhead.
as often mentioned: don't expect more than 25 MB/s from the disk itself for streaming and keep in mind all devices on a USB bus share the bandwith, so you might notice unexpected hickups now and then.
