  • Using VI on Multiple Machines

    Hi! Guys...

Need some help. I am running VI on a single machine at the moment. The Machine is powerful with 4 GB of RAM so I am able to load around 10-12 instances of VI with 10-12 Altiverbs etc.

But I have stability issues and then I need room for other plug ins etc.

In a couple of months, I am planning to buy 2 other computers to off set this load. I want to run VI on seperate machines.

What is the best way to do this on a Windows based PC?

I was looking at Forte and Vstack.

And how are you guys routing everything? Are you using ADAT for second and third computers. Is there anything like FX teleport or soemthing that works over LAN? So I dont need audio interfaces.

Can you reccommend good Audio interfaces with ADAT and lots of outputs to configure this?

And finally - If I get two other computers, I will end up with two more flat screens (2 Already for the first computer)

How do people avoid this? What about people with PC Farms? Are there any PCI Hardware thingys that can display multiple computer VGA/DVI outputs on a single screen?

Just need an overview on using VI on spereate machines.

And I sincerely hope that this opens up a detailed discussion point for the benefit of everyone as well.

I shall wait for your replies.

    Thanks!

    Best,
    Tanuj.

  • Hi vibrato,
To get around the multiple keyboards/mice thing, I've been using a free program called Synergy. It works great and uses the LAN and ethernet to work. Basically, when your mouse leaves the screen area of your main screen, it goes straight over to your slave machine's screen as if it were one desktop.

Whichever screen the cursor is currently on is the one which will respond to the keyboard. You can't drag/copy anything from screen to screen (like you could if were a 'real' single desktop), but copy and saving to the clipboard does work.

    Hope this helps,
    Mahlon
