  • Question about the VI Interface pixel ratio

Is the VI interface meant to be viewed in 1280x1024 or 1024x768? I mean originally when the GUI was created. I suspect the latter.

Things are a little small at 1280 x 1024 on a 17 inch monitor (Samsung LCD). If I go to non-native res of 1024 x 768, the size seems very good, but the monitor doesn't display as clearly -- so there is some fuzziness. Now I haven't tried it on a 19 inch yet (and that relationship may be perfect), but a 17 incher is the perfect size since the satellite computers only run VSL, and 17 inchers stay small and tucked to the sides of the main monitor.

Would VSL ever consider scaling up the interface? Or making it 'scaleable' in the future? Especially now that we're getting into really high resolutions.

    Thanks,
    Mahlon

  • mahlon, so to speak 1 pixel is 1 pixel is 1 pixel - as long as you run your monitor's native resolution it will be displayed in the same manner.
if you have set your resolution to another value the grafic gets interpolated, which is sometimes better, sometimes worse (depends on VGA, monitor and type of connection), several other factors (like smoothing, cleartype, ect) from the driver or operating system add to any of such *smearing effects*

although i'm a big fan of scalability i had to accept it wouldn't make any sense for the interface (the structure would disintegrate) primary because a series of elements in several layers could not be usefully scaled.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • I thought about this a couple of times and came to the conclusion, that while I work with high resolutions to see the mixer and timeline windows, I should add an extra monitor with 800x600 resolution to view plug-ins
