    Yeeehaaa,
    received my "Complete Orchestral Package" yesterday - man, the cube is huge !!!!!! [[;)]]

    Now there's a lot of work to do (copying the files to my HD, import to HALion.... poof - it's a lifetime-job... [H].

    So thanks again to you Herb, for your outstanding help and support.
    Thanks to KingIdiot - without your help, I would never be able to feel (and use) the magic of the Perf.Set with my HAL.

    Always remember: If it's not VSL, it's not real.

    did you say you've got the perf set working with HALion? Mac or PC? In what kind of way? has KingIdiot managed to work a Cubase MIDI plugin? or are you just using the runs etc and over-programming the repetitions?

    i have HALion working quite nicely with everything both cube and the performance set. To use the performance set legatos/repetitions is a pain but possible.

    I use the midiyoke s/w provided on the VSL Demo CDs (you should have received at least one of these). Then I simply have 2 channels in Cubase SL.

    Channel 1: My midi-keyboad input out to MIDIYoke 1.
    Channel 2: MIDIYoke 2 input, out to Halion.

    Then I run the performance tool in background, with MIDIYoke 1 as input and MIDIYoke 2 as its output.

    The only downside to all this is that Cubase appears to "listen" to all channels on its inputs. This means you cannot run to perf instruments in this configuration.

    To get round this you need to play Channel 1 and record Channel 2 (thereby getting the performance control notes onto the Channel). Once thats done simply turn off Channel 1 and repeat with Channels 3/4, 5/6 etc etc. Not very elegant but it works.

    If anyone else has a better solution please let us all know.

    timkiel is totally right - that's the way it goes - but it's better than nothing, eh ? [[;)]]

    I first tried it with the demo-cube and the included perf.tool demo some weeks ago (see thread "Perf.Tool Tricks"- thanks again to King).
    The only thing to mention is: You will have to record on both tracks.
    The one track (the one with HAL set as Out-Port) records all the sounds - and the keyswitches which are activated by the perf.tool.
    The other one only records (the real played) NoteOn's - including all the (possible) overlab's - and doesn't contain any sounds. After recording, you can simply delete the stuff on this track.

    As far as I know, the same trick should also work with the VotA word building tool. [:D]

  • Hmm, I've just imported a legato instrument to my sequencer PC running Halion 2. Wanted to see if it was easy enough to get the performance tool running and working. It is!

    Note, I'm using Midi over Lan to create a local pipe to route midi through. Anyway, I start the performance tool, select my midi keyboard as input, the local pipe output as output. In cubase, the local pipe-in is the midi in source for the midi track, with Halion 2 as the output. Import your fav legato patch, and it should work perfectly! No secondary track required either, you just play and record.

    it just clicked - you're all running Halion on PCs - I'm running it on a Mac... I guess I'll have to develop a Mac Cubase MIDI filter perf tool...! [:)]

  • Only disadvantage of my method is that you get the midi control information (keyswitches) recorded too, but I don't see that as a big problem.

    tried your version with maple tools - it also works [:)]
    The only thing to mention is, that I have to start & setup the perf.tool BEFORE starting Cubase (otherwise it's not possible to setup the perf.tool's InPort....... Once Cubase is running, it's possible to close and restart (setup) the perf.tool as often as you want...- funny world..........[;)]
    But I think, that's something everyone can live with, eh ?? [:)]

    Jean - quite right. I use this approach too, but it does mean you don't have an editable source if you make mistakes (I'm prone to mistakes [:D] ). If you can get away with recording directly (which will include all the auto keyswitching) then thats fine. Otherwise two tracks is the only way...

    Well, you can move the notes (and the keyswitches together if necessary), one just has to be more careful and make more effort to play stuff right the first time. [;)]

    seems that, using your technique, it's only possible to use the Perf.Tool's first channel - all the others seem to have no effect. (Maybe it works with midiOverLan - please let me know).
