  • Sustained Notes

    Hi

My first few vienna instruments arrived!! So happy, but I have a newbe question. I was playing with the solo strings, violin and cello and noticed that when I held a note sometimes there was a cut in the sound, is this just the bow chnging direction?

Also it stops playing the note all together after a few seconds, is this normal?

Is there a type that will continuously play a note as long as I hold it?

    Sorry about the stupid questions!

    Thanks,
    Simon

  • Hi Simon. Yes, I think you're probably hearing the player elongate his sustained notes by changing bow direction. There's a slight dip in the sound as the bow changes direction.

Manufacturers can make sustained notes continue indefinitely by looping them. Some of the sustains in the VSL library are looped, but I guess the solo strings sustains aren't.
