So, all my VSL work, up to this point, has been with the Pro Edition using Gigastudio. And now I have a little window of time to start migrating over to Vienna Instruments. I realized I would need to start with a new computer since I don't think the 2 different systems work well together on one. And since I can go on using the Pro Edition also I thought I would go ahead and try to set things up on a Vista computer even though drivers and software aren't updated yet… Just see how far I could get.
So here's what happened so far. I thought I would just start installing everything that was running on Windows XP and see what happens. I installed V-Stack. It appears, so far, to be running ok. I installed Midisport 2x2 drivers for midi. It appears, so far, to be ok. I installed MIDIoverLAN CP. It appears, so far, to be ok. I installed the Vienna Instruments software. It appears, so far, to be ok. I didn't try to install the the M-Audio Delta 66 drivers yet for audio. I'll just use the built in card for now to see if it will work.
So now I’ve come to the first brick wall. The VI Standalone player doesn’t want to recognize midi in from the MIDIoverLAN. I can click on the keyboard in the player with my mouse and it works fine but that’s it.
Next I opened up V-Stack and opened up VI inside that. Using V-Stack the MIDIoverLAN midi worked ok but there was a very long delay…almost a second long ...between the time you hit a note and the time you hear it. I have no idea what could cause that.
Next, since this delay only happened inside V-Stack I thought I would try using Forte instead. I downloaded the demo. It appeared to install OK. But when I tried to open it up it told me that “no suitable hardware outputs were found”. I guess it doesn’t approve of the built in sound card.
So that’s where it stands right now. Haven’t decided what to do next yet. If you are reading this and have any suggestions or input I would welcome it. After putting this much in to it, it would be nice if I didn’t have to turn around and go back to XP. I don’t want this to take months to work out.
