Is Apogee Mobile the best way to go, with Rosetta 200 or something? Or are there better (cheaper) options? Thanks.

Sound Card For PCI ExpressCard 34 On MBP

-
I want to use my MacBook Pro to mock up an orchestra with VSL. It seems like the list of sound cards for the Express Card 34 is a rather small list, so I want to know what others are using, and how it is working for them. So far, the only one I have found is Apogee Mobile, but I thought I saw that Motu had one too. What are my options, and how is it working out for other people.
By the way, the reason why I want an audio interface for Express card 34 is that I am using firewire 800 to connect my external harddrive, and I want to keep it at 800, as using both would reduce each of them to 400.
Thanks.

we have also an eye on a PCIe 34 card from apogee and i have not found any other vendor so far. of course you could do it the other way around - connect harddisk via sATA and PCI express 34 sATA adapter and audio via firewire ...

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds. -
I would assume that USB would be a worse connection than the others because of the speed and unstability of USB. I actaully haven't had any experiance with audio interfaces, but I want to be sure to get one that will take me down the road a while.
So Apogee is the only maker for Express Card 34. If I went with their setup, it seems it would come out to around $2,000. That is a little more than I was planning on spending. I guess I'll hook up my External harddrive to the 400 port, and see if I can deal with the lower transfer rate. Thanks for the help.
